Hendricks (back) will make another rehab start at Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports. Hendricks made his first rehab start at Triple-A (second overall) on Tuesday, allowing one earned run in 4.1 innings while striking out six batters and walking three. He'll remain in the minors for another start, though there is no telling whether or not he'll be pulled off his assignment after Sunday's outing. If his next start does end up being his final appearance in the minors, Hendricks would be lined up to start May 17 against the Pirates.
Hendricks (back) struck out six and allowed one earned run on five hits and three walks over 4.1 innings in his second rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Iowa. Hendricks tossed 85 pitches in the outing and said Wednesday that he "felt great" during his time on the mound, per Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. The right-hander's pitch count and own comments about his health suggests that he'll be ready to make his next start with the Cubs, perhaps as soon as Sunday in Pittsburgh. Once Hendricks is activated from the 15-day injured list, he'll likely be taking over Hayden Wesneski's spot in the rotation.
Wisdom is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres. Wisdom is on the bench for the third straight game and looks to be the odd man out of the Cubs' regular lineup following Cody Bellinger's return from the 10-day injured list. The 32-year-old could still play regularly against left-handed pitching.
Amaya is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres. Amaya will rest for the series finale after he started at catcher in four of the Cubs' previous five games. Yan Gomes will step in behind the dish Wednesday.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Wednesday that Swanson is absent from the lineup versus the Padres due to a right knee issue, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. Counsell added that Swanson tweaked the knee on a slide during an April 25 contest against the Astros. He's considered day-to-day. The Cubs have a scheduled off day Thursday, so Swanson will look to return to action Friday in Pittsburgh. Nico Hoerner is sliding over to shortstop Wednesday, while Miles Mastrobuoni is getting a start at second base.
Imanaga didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against San Diego, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk across seven innings. He struck out eight. Imanaga allowed more than five hits for the first time this season and tied his season worst earned run total but it was hardly a disappointing start for the first-year MLB'er, who's arguably been the best starter in baseball. He blanked the Padres through seven innings but allowed an infield single to Luis Arraez then a homer to Jurickson Profar in the eighth before being pulled. Imanaga has fanned seven or more batters in three straight starts and the Cubs are 7-0 when he's on the bump. The lefty is tentatively scheduled to make his next start Tuesday in Atlanta.
Bellinger went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Padres. Bellinger returned from the injured list Tuesday after missing about two weeks with a fractured ribcage, but he didn't seem to skip a beat. Dating back to before his injury, the 28-year-old is now riding a nine-game hitting streak, and he's gone deep four times in that span, giving him six home runs for the season. Bellinger looks locked in and should be a fantasy force the rest of the way as long as he stays healthy.
