The Chicago Cubs are coming off a series loss to the Seattle Mariners over the weekend. However, the Cubbies salvaged the 3-game set in Seattle with a massive 19-2 victory on Sunday afternoon. Chicago is 75-63 and holds a 2.0-game lead for the top NL Wild Card spot over the Philadelphia Phillies, so the Cubs need to keep the pedal to the metal here to finish out the season.
Before their series opener with the Arizona Diamondbacks, which has NL Wild Card implications, the Cubs announced a roster decision regarding infielder Owen Miller.

After designating him for assignment a few days ago, the Chicago Cubs have outrighed Owen Miller to the minors.
The roster move took place on August 24, and it’s unclear if Miller will accept the outright assignment to Iowa or not. He appeared in just one game with the Cubs, but did not record a plate appearance.
His transactions tracker reflects the move: “Chicago Cubs sent 2B Owen Miller outright to Iowa Cubs.”
It’s plausible to think that the Cubs may release Miller in the coming days.
He signed with the Chicago Cubs in February and has been playing mostly in the minors this season.

Owen Miller, 29, has played in parts of six MLB seasons.
He’s played with the Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Cleveland Guardians.
Across 947 total at-bats in the show, Miller has batted .238 with 15 home runs, 100 RBI, and a lifetime OPS+ of 76.
His hitting stats haven’t been great, and after his first few seasons, where he recorded 100+ at-bats frequently, he’s been looked at as mostly an infield depth option.
