With an opportunity to further bolster their rotation, the Dodgers are pushing for a Freddy Peralta trade.

Freddy Peralta is no longer a Milwaukee Brewer. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the massive news on Wednesday night that the Brewers are sending the New York Mets their two-time All-Star starter, Freddy Peralta, in return for two top-five prospects in the Mets organization, Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat. Tobias Myers is also headed to Queens in the deal. Peralta finished his tenure with the Brewers as a two-time All-Star, and finished top-5 in NL Cy Young voting this season.

2025 is the season where Freddy Peralta flourished into a true ace, as if there were any questions about him being one before this season. Over 176.2 innings in 2025, Freddy Peralta posted a 2.70 ERA and 204 strikeouts. He’s had three straight seasons of making 30+ starts and posting 200+ strikeouts.

The deal is done and official, Freddy Peralta is headed to Queens. He had spent all eight seasons of his MLB career with Milwaukee. Here were his career stats in a Brewers’ uniform:

162 starts, 3.59 ERA, 931 innings, 1153 K’s, 3.66 FIP, 70-42 pitching record

The main reason Milwaukee dealt Peralta away before the season is because of the thought that they won’t be able to sign him after the 2026 season when he hits free agency. This was enough for the Brewers front office to offload him now in order to guarantee they get prospect capital in his return.

As for the two players the Brewers receive in return, Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat, Sproat is a right-handed pitcher who saw MLB innings in 2025, and Jett Williams in a 2B/SS prospect who may be MLB-ready very soon.

The Brewers traded for Quinn Priester last offseason, and it paid out tremendously for Milwaukee, as he posted a breakout 2025 campaign and now steps into a more important role in the Brewers’ rotation.

Life After Freddy Peralta

The Brewers will now prepare for life after Freddy Peralta. Jacob Misiorowski will likely take over as the ace, but as currently listed on the Brewers depth chart, Misiorowski and Priester are the only two starters.

Milwaukee also loses Tobias Myers, who boasted a 3.55 ERA last season in 50.2 innings out of the bullpen, so that is another addition for the Mets’ pitching staff that will help them in the upcoming season.

Milwaukee picked up the $8 million club option on Freddy Peralta for this season, so the Mets will pick up that contract, and if the Mets want to make Peralta worthwhile, as they clearly value him at a high-level, extending him sooner rather than later might be the smartest option.

The Brewers have done deals like this in the past, where they trade away their top stars before having to pay them, and that is exactly this situation with the Peralta trade.
