Charles Priester: Breaking News

Labors through another rehab start

Priester (shoulder) recorded two outs and was charged with three earned runs on two hits and three walks Wednesday in his rehab start with Triple-A Nashville. He struck out one batter. Per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Milwaukee was aiming for Priester to cover five innings and around 80-to-85 pitches Wednesday in his third start since resuming his rehab assignment, but the right-hander fell well short of both benchmarks. He needed 38 pitches just to record his two outs, with Priester's erratic control prompting his removal from the game before the first inning concluded. Priester hasn't looked sharp at any point over the course of his two separate rehab assignments spanning six starts, accruing a 21.60 ERA, 3.60 WHIP and 10:17 K:BB in 10 innings over one outing with High-A Wisconsin and five with Nashville. In addition to lacking control, Priester has struggled to regain velocity as he works his way back from right neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome. Priester averaged 93.9 mph with his sinker during the 2025 season, but he reached a max velocity of just 93.3 mph during Wednesday's start.

Shaky in rehab start

Priester (shoulder) was charged with five earned runs on five hits and three walks over three innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Thursday. Priester resumed a rehab assignment last weekend at High-A Wisconsin, yielding seven runs in 1.1 frames. The results were a bit better Thursday, but it's all relative, as Priester continues to look like a pitcher who's not close to being ready to face major-league hitters. Priester averaged 92.2 miles per hour with his sinker -- down 1.7 mph from last season -- and he induced only four whiffs and two strikeouts. The righty should make another rehab start next week and will hope to take a step forward then.

Moving rehab to Triple-A Nashville

Priester (shoulder) departed High-A Wisconsin on Tuesday to join Triple-A Nashville for his next rehab start Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Priester's last rehab start was May 16 for High-A Wisconsin versus High-A South Bend. He allowed seven earned runs on five hits and three walks with two strike outs in 1.1 innings of work. The right-hander has struggled through his four total rehab assignments between High-A Wisconsin and Triple-A Nashville with a 22.74 ERA and 3.63 WHIP across 6.1 innings. The first three appearances came with Triple-A Nashville as he nursed a nerve issue in his right wrist, but then he started to deal with shoulder soreness.
