The New York Mets have lost nine consecutive games after a 12-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Friday afternoon.

They have not won a game since April 7, when they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3, and now sit at 7-13, which is good for last place in the NL East. It’s pretty clear New York misses the services of Juan Soto, who should return to the lineup next week.

MLB World Reacts to Mets Losing Streak

Carlos Mendoza

GettyCarlos Mendoza and the New York Mets are struggling.

As you can imagine, with the Mets’ large fanbase and near $400 million payroll, there are some pretty strong reactions taking place across social media.

Here are some of the best:

@hopefulmetsfan: Mets are a PERPETUAL laughing stock org This is WORSE than the Wilpon era David Stearns is the WORST GM in MLB Worst team money can buy every year
@nym__updates: PAIN… THE METS HAVE NOW LOST 9 STRAIGHT GAMES (Longest team losing streak since 2004)
The New York Mets have scored just 16 runs in their last 9 games. Should Carlos Mendoza be fired? Or is this team just really struggling because of Juan Soto’s absence?
@artiebucco_chef: Jolly olive hahaha you fat greasy bridge goblin is now crying about the Mets after he blocked me last week and tried calling me out for saying they suck
@Hostility_Sway:Oh yea. Mendoza AMD Stearns doing a real good job. Saying this as the team is still on a downhill spiral from last year. 9 in a row…. let’s just make it 11 after yet another beat down. From coming so close to a World Series, to now a pitiful last place team.

What/Who is to Blame for Mets’ Losing Streak? / More Reactions

It’s hard to point the finger at one single entity when a team has struggled over the course of a week and a half like the Mets have.

The offense is the obvious thing to blame, because New York is clearly lacking a lot of little things like getting on base, drawing walks, and, of course, hitting home runs.

The pitching has been fine in most of the losses, but in the last two games, the Mets’ pitching staff has given up 20 runs, and that’s the last thing that the organization needs to falter at this moment.

@RoscooRick: When are people going to admit that the Mets are not a good team this season. They weren’t coming into the season..
@URNIN_69: FRANCISCO LINDOR CARES MORE ABOUT BEING ON A PODCAST DURING A LOSING STREAK THAN WINNING!!!
@mpopovichREP: Scooch over ’92 Mets. When it’s all said and done, this may end up being the worst team money could buy.
Yikes…. Mets fans, what do you think is the reason for the losing streak? and what does the team need to do in order to turn it around?
