There is a serious trend forming with the New York Mets this season, and it’s not a positive one. It’s very clear and apparent that the Mets are missing the services of Juan Soto BADLY.
On Friday afternoon, in the first game of a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs, New York lost 12-4, which marks the team’s ninth consecutive loss. The Mets are 7-13, and the sky is officially falling in Queens.
The losing streak started on April 8, when the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated New York 7-2. The Mets then dropped to the Diamondbacks again, were swept by the Athletics at home, and then traveled out west to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers (where they were also swept). New York got an off day on Thursday, but it didn’t seem to matter.

What’s to Blame for the Mets Losing Streak?
It’s hard to look past the obvious, which is that the New York Mets have virtually scored no runs in the last week and a half.
Over the past nine games, the Mets have scored just 16 runs, which is not even two runs per contest.
Juan Soto should return by next week, but who is to say New York will even pick up a win before then?
In a competitive national league, no team with playoff aspirations can afford to drop this many games to start the season. I mean, it’s not even April 18, and New York has 13 losses. David Stearns and the rest of the front office went on a frenzy this offseason by acquiring the likes of Bo Bichette, Luis Robert Jr., and Freddy Peralta.
And it’s looking like the pitching staff is starting to falter as well, considering they’ve surrendered 20 runs since Wednesday.

Is There Still Hope for Mets?
Of course, there are still over 130 games left to be played in 2026, but the Mets are already in last place in the NL East, and continue to fall.
It’s a very concerning storyline in the early going, and will certainly draw outcry from fans across the New York sports landscape.
They need the return of Juan Soto like water and air, and even he might not be able to solve all of the Mets’ issues at this point.
Francisco Lindor is also off to a poor start, and it’s starting to become apparent that manager Carlos Mendoza is doing things differently, which he has to in this position, but it may be fair to question how long he will remain the Mets clubhouse leader if this drought continues.
Mets fans, what needs to happen in order to turn this season around? Should the team fire Carlos Mendoza? Make a big-time trade? Or is everything okay, and positive regression is sure to come in the future?
