New York Mets Announce Release Of 14-Year MLB Player

On Wednesday night, the New York Mets will play the final game of their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers in California.

They will look to avoid getting swept after losing each of the first two.

New York Mets Release 14-Year MLB Player

On Wednesday, the Mets announced that they had released Luis Garcia (h/t MLB Trade Rumors).

He has appeared in six games this season, going 0-0 with a 7.11 ERA.

@metsnewsletter wrote (on April 14): “The Mets released RHP Luis García. They designated him for assignment a few days ago.”

Garcia is in the middle of his 14th MLB season.

He spent the first six years of his career playing for the Philadelphia Phillies.

In that span (which was his longest stint with one team), Garcia went 12-14 with a 4.12 ERA in 251 games.

Garcia then had stints with the Los Angeles Angels, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers and Washington Nationals.

Over 609 career games, he has gone 28-30 with a 4.11 ERA.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com wrote (on April 12): “News: The Mets designated reliever Luis García for assignment, calling up Joey Gerber.

The team had signed García to a one-year, $1.75 million contract with another $1.25 million in incentives over the offseason. It will still be on the hook for the base salary.”

At 39, it will be interesing to see if Garcia can join another MLB team before the end of the 2026 season.

Despite never making an All-Star Game, he has had a solid career.

Mets Right Now

The Mets are struggling in a big way, as they have lost seven games in a row.

They are the last-place team in the National League East with a 7-11 record in 18 games.

Following the Dodgers, the Mets will play their next game on Friday when they visit the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
