Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. Makes Giancarlo Stanton Statement After Brutal Injury News

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed brutal injury news regarding star designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton on Saturday.

Via MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch on X: “Giancarlo Stanton strained his other calf. He fell while running. Moderate grade strain, Aaron Boone said. He may be out for the season.”

Stanton has been on the injured list since April 28.

Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. commented on Stanton’s brutal injury update.

“He’s just a substantial piece for our team. It sucks. We really want him back and kind of need him back,” Chisholm said.

Via ESPN’s Jorge Castillo on X: “Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the Yankees’ injuries: “The IL team is great.””

In addition to Stanton, the Yankees are been dealing with injuries to stars Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, Max Fried and Carlos Rodon.

Rodon returned recently and Bellinger is expected to return tomorrow. Fried isn’t expected to be out for much longer. It’s unclear exactly when Judge will return.

In 24 games before landing on the IL, Stanton slashed .256/.302/.422 with three home runs, six doubles and 14 RBI.

Stanton has had trouble avoiding injuries since being traded to the Yankees in the 2017-18 offseason.

He appeared in just 77 games last year, 101 in 2023 and 110 in 2022. In 2019, he appeared in 18 games. He also appeared in just 23 of the 60 games in the shortened 2020 season.

Throughout his 17-year career, Stanton has accumulated 47.0 bWAR with an .871 OPS, 456 home runs and 1,183 RBI.

Chisholm has had a rough year, posting 0.9 bWAR and a .680 OPS across 119 games.

Last season, Chisholm posted 4.1 bWAR and an .813 OPS with 31 home runs and 80 RBI.

Chisholm is slated to be a free agent at the end of this season. There’s a strong chance he will have to settle for a one-year deal.

Throughout his seven-year MLB Career, Chisholm has accumulated 13.4 bWAR with a .755 OPS, 25 home runs, 357 RBI and 163 stolen bases.
