Max Fried: Everything you need to know

Fried didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Orioles, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out six. After holding opponents scoreless over 14 innings in his previous two starts, Fried matched his season high in both walks and hits allowed Sunday, though the Yankees would rally late in an eventual 11-3 victory. Fried has delivered quality starts in six of his eight outings to open the year, posting a 2.39 ERA with a 0.89 WHIP and 43:15 K: BB across 52.2 innings. The left-hander is currently lined up to face the Brewers on the road his next time out.

Fried (4-1) earned the victory versus Texas on Monday, allowing four hits and issuing two walks while striking out five batters over six scoreless innings. All four hits Fried surrendered were singles, and he didn't allow any Rangers to reach second base. He finished with his second straight scoreless outing and his fourth overall through seven starts this season. Fried has logged a quality start in six of his seven appearances -- he leads the league in that category while posting a 2.09 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB across 47.1 frames. He's working on a string of 14 straight scoreless frames, which he'll look to extend in his text start, tentatively slated to come at home versus Baltimore.

Fried (3-1) notched the win Wednesday against the Red Sox, allowing no runs on three hits and two walks in eight innings. He struck out nine. The All-Star southpaw had his entire arsenal working in a gem, fanning a season-high nine in his third scoreless start of the campaign. Fried has done an outstanding job of providing length for the Yankees to begin 2026, working at least 6.1 frames in all but one of his first five starts thus far. Fried boasts a 2.40 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 32:10 K:BB over 41.1 innings, and he next sets up to face a Rangers team that's struggled against lefties to the tune of a .582 OPS versus left-handing pitching this season.
