On Friday, the New York Yankees announced a series of roster moves before their game against the Toronto Blue Jays (at home).

The Yankees wrote (via X): “Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves: • Recalled INF/OF Max Schuemann (#30) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. • Placed INF Ryan McMahon on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to 8/20) with a left thumb sprain.”

Ahead of the game, Yankees legend Paul O’Neill was asked for his thoughts (via YES Network).

Meredith Marakovits: “Now, Paul, you mentioned the left side of the infield. It’s going to look a little different tonight. Ryan McMahon lands on the IL. It’s going to be Amed Rosario there at third base. Aaron Boone saying, it’s going to be a day-by-day situation as far as who’s out there.”

O’Neill: “Well, they’ve faced 10 consecutive right-handers. So, to get Goldschmidt, Rosario back in the lineup, that’s a good thing tonight. The good news was when I came to the ballpark today, McMahon, he’s out taking ground balls, he’s doing active stuff. So, I don’t think it’s going to be a long thing for him and he was starting to turn it around offensively. So it’s good things for him.”

Marakovits: “In the meantime, the Yankees have called up Max Schuemann. He was not in the clubhouse pregame, but he is expected to be here by first pitch, so he will be an option off of the bench. No Anthony Volpe. Aaron Boone was asked about that if he was a consideration and he said Schuemann, well, he just brings a little bit more versatility, Paul.”

O’Neill: “He certainly does. And we’ve seen what he can do. He can play a lot of positions. I think Volpe’s on a schedule to learn another position, to learn how to help this organization in some aspect. But right now, you’re worried about what’s on the field and it’s all about the pitching and trying to get this offense some kind of consistency where you can get on a major run here.”

Yankees Right Now

The Yankees come into their series with Toronto as the second-place team in the American League East with a 72-55 record in 127 games.

They are just 4.0 games back of the Tampa Bay Rays.
