LeBron James heard the boos, traded heated words with a courtside fan and ultimately helped spoil the New York Knicks‘ championship celebration.

The Philadelphia 76ers star found himself in a verbal confrontation during the second quarter of Tuesday’s season opener at Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks were celebrating their first NBA championship in 53 years.

The exchange grew animated enough that longtime Knicks supporter Spike Lee stepped in, drawing an amused reaction from NBC analyst Reggie Miller.

“Guess who’s playing peacemaker? Spike Lee,” Miller said during the broadcast. “Boy, I’ve seen everything.”

James, however, wasn’t finished making his presence felt.

The 41-year-old delivered a crucial defensive stop in the closing minutes before sinking two free throws that sealed Philadelphia’s 106-100 victory.

LeBron James Fires Back at Knicks Fan During Heated Exchange

James had already received a hostile welcome from New York fans, who chanted “We don’t want you!” when he stepped to the free-throw line.

The chant referenced his offseason revelation that he had considered finishing his career with the Knicks before their championship changed his plans.

But the atmosphere became more personal late in the first half.

Video of the incident showed James exchanging words with a fan who appeared to question his toughness.

“I’m not from the West Coast. I’m from Ohio, baby,” James responded.

James also used profanity during the confrontation.

NBC play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico provided additional context, explaining that another fan had heckled James about living in New York and commuting by helicopter.

The fan reportedly told James that his residence didn’t mean Knicks supporters would cheer for him.

Lee, dressed for the Knicks’ championship celebration, attempted to ease the tension.

The moment quickly circulated on social media, adding another memorable chapter to James’ long relationship with Madison Square Garden.

LeBron James Gets Final Word as 76ers Spoil Knicks’ Ring Night

The confrontation wasn’t the last time James frustrated the Garden crowd.

With Philadelphia leading 104-98 and 1:32 remaining, James blocked Mikal Bridges‘ layup attempt, denying the Knicks an opportunity to reduce their deficit.

He secured the defensive rebound himself.

New York eventually cut the lead to four points, but James delivered the finishing touch.

With eight seconds remaining, the four-time NBA champion calmly sank two free throws to seal the 76ers’ 106-100 victory.

It was a fitting conclusion to an eventful evening for James, who had endured hostile chants and exchanged heated words with a courtside Knicks fan earlier in the game.

New York’s championship banner was raised, and the players received the rings they earned during their historic title run.

The opening-night victory, however, belonged to Philadelphia.

And after all the back-and-forth with the Garden crowd, James had the final word where it mattered most — at the free-throw line.

The four-time NBA champion finished his 76ers debut with 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia with 28 points, while Jaylen Brown added 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists in his first regular-season appearance for the 76ers.

Jalen Brunson scored 21 points for New York, and Karl-Anthony Towns contributed 19 points and 12 rebounds.

The result spoiled a historic evening for the Knicks, who received their championship rings and raised their first title banner since 1973 after defeating San Antonio in June’s NBA Finals.

James later acknowledged the significance of New York’s celebration.

“It was a great night for New York fans,” he told reporters, noting that he understood the emotion after helping Cleveland end its own lengthy championship drought.

Still, Tuesday ended with a different outcome than the Garden faithful envisioned, with James having the last laugh.
