Per NFL insider Mike Garafolo and other reports, former Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier is signing with the Arizona Cardinals on a two-year, $12.25 million deal. After four seasons in Atlanta, the reliable Allgeier heads to the desert in a deal done by Justin Schulman and Andrew Kessler at AthletesFirst.
Tyler Allgeier has been a backup running back in Atlanta for his career, but now he will finally get his chance at being a starter in Arizona, with questions surrounding the running back position in a revamped Cardinals offense. In four NFL seasons and 676 total carries, Allgeier has 2876 rushing yards and 20 total touchdowns.

Tyler Allgeier Signs with Cardinals on Two-Year Deal

The two-year contract is a good security blanket for Tyler Allgeier, who has been such a serviceable backup for the Falcons. Many NFL teams would be glad to have his production for the four years he was with the team.
His best season was 2022, his rookie season, when he had 1,000 yards rushing. In the years following that breakout season, Allgeier still posted consistent 600-yard rushing seasons, and that’s with Bijan Robinson being the lead back. He’s started just 12 games in his NFL career, but has appeared in 67 games out of a possible 68.
A lot of Falcons fans will surely miss Tyler Allgeier and his services. Always a gritty running back who ran hard and was always able to relieve some of the load off Bijan Robinson.
It will be interesting to see how the Falcons replace his production.

Other Falcons Free Agency News
Aside from losing Tyler Allgeier in free agency, the Falcons have made a lot of notable additions on the first day of NFL free agency.
First, the team has added to the receiving corps group with the additions of Olamide Zaccheus, Jahan Dotson, and Austin Hooper.
And Atlanta also shored up the special teams group with the signings of Nick Folk and Jake Bailey. Folk will be the team’s new placekicker, and Bailey will punt balls away on fourth down for the Falcons.
The most notable move, however, is the Falcons bringing in quarterback Tua Tagovalioa on a one-year deal to presumably be the team’s starting QB until Michael Penix Jr. returns.
Again, it will be interesting to see how the Falcons replace Tyler Allgeier, and if it’s either by making a signing or drafting another running back. Drafting a guy seems like the smarter option, as Atlanta will have to pay Bijan Robinson soon.
