The NFL season is never truly over. Once the Super Bowl ends, the focus immediately shifts to free agency and the draft — and the Atlanta Falcons are expected to be very active in both.

It will be a new era in Atlanta, with a front office led by new general manager Ian Cunningham and president of football Matt Ryan, both tasked with giving new head coach Kevin Stefanski everything he needs to build a competitive roster.

Ryan and Cunningham recently spoke about evaluating the team heading into the offseason but understandably avoided specifics. That likely means tough decisions are coming — particularly regarding pending 2026 free agents.

This offseason features not only beloved players but key contributors from the past few seasons. However, that doesn’t guarantee they’ll be back in a Falcons uniform. A new regime typically means a new vision, and no one outside Flowery Branch knows exactly what that looks like just yet.

One of the most notable pending free agents is four-year running back Tyler Allgeier, who is set to become unrestricted.

Falcons Could Lose Tyler Allgeier to AFC Team

Allgeier’s time in Atlanta could be coming to an end, according to Pro Football Focus’ Mason Cameron. And if that were to happen, he is predicted to land with the Kansas City Chiefs.

“Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, one of the game’s most creative offensive minds, can bring the best out of Allgeier. And Kansas City may be priced out of the top options,” Cameron wrote.

Allgeier’s projected market value sits at a one-year, $1.8 million deal, according to Spotrac. That would make him affordable even for a Chiefs team currently projected to be $54.7 million over the cap.

“The Chiefs have called the seventh-most zone runs over the past three seasons, yet they rank just 28th in yards per carry on zone runs (3.8). They’ve lacked an elusive threat out of the backfield capable of making would-be tacklers whiff. Allgeier can fill that void, as he stands tied for 12th in missed tackles forced per attempt among backs with at least 200 carries since he entered the league in 2022.”

Tyler Allgeier Has Had Solid Falcons Career

Allgeier became a fan favorite in Atlanta. Before Bijan Robinson’s arrival in 2023, he was the team’s lead back. As a rookie, he rushed for 1,035 yards with four total touchdowns.

Even after Robinson was drafted, Allgeier remained a valuable complement in the backfield. He hasn’t eclipsed 1,000 yards since his rookie season, but he’s been consistent, rushing for more than 500 yards in each of the past three seasons and posting a career-high eight touchdowns in 2025.

“Over his four NFL seasons, Allgeier has earned a 90.0 PFF rushing grade on zone concepts, the eighth-highest mark among qualifying backs over that span,” Cameron added.

If the Falcons move on from Allgeier, they would need to identify a capable replacement. Robinson fills multiple roles within the offense — something that will likely continue under Stefanski and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees — but having a reliable RB2 remains essential in today’s NFL.
