The Baltimore Ravens ended the discussion on whether or not they had an elite edge rusher with a trade for Las Vegas Raiders superstar Maxx Crosby on Friday. It was also a move that immediately made edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones expendable.
Now, Jones is set to cash in with one of the Ravens’ rivals by agreeing to a huge contract with the New England Patriots just minutes after the start of NFL free agency on Monday.
“BREAKING: The Patriots are signing DL/LB Dre’Mont Jones to a 3-year, $39M contract, per sources,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote on his official X account. “Jones was with the Titans and Ravens last year — notching career-highs in sacks (7) and pressures (55 pressures). A big add for Mike Vrabel.”
“The Patriots are signing Dre’Mont Jones to a 3-year, $39.5M deal, sources say,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote on his official X account. “He gets $14.5M in year one.”
Ravens Made Midseason Move for Jones
The Ravens traded a conditional 5th round pick to the Tennessee Titans right before the NFL trade deadline to get Jones in hopes of jump-starting a zombie-like defense.
Jones, 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds, came to the Ravens playing some of the best football of his career.
“Sources: The #Ravens are trading for #Titans edge Dre’Mont Jones, sending a conditional 5th rounder that could possibly become a fourth-rounder,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote on November 3. “More defensive help in Baltimore from a player whose has had 4.5 sacks in the last four games.”
“The pick going to Tennessee is the Jets’ 2026 5th-round pick that Baltimore had; but there are conditions in which that pick could become the Ravens’ 2026 4th-round pick,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on his official X account.
All That Matters Now is Maxx Crosby
Jones may have been in line for big money with the Ravens if they hadn’t pulled off the trade for Crosby, which cost them both their 2026 and 2027 1st round picks.
Now, all that matters is Crosby and how he fits with the defense — the Ravens saw their Super Bowl odds go from +1100 to +950 within days of the trade.
Crosby, who signed a 3-year, $106.5 million contract extension before the 2025 season, joins a defense littered with NFL All-Pro talent. With Jesse Minter, a defensive-minded head coach, leading the way, the sky could be the limit.
Crosby broke his silence on Saturday afternoon with a 12-minute video posted to his official X account.
“Flock Nation, everybody in the whole city of Baltimore, I’ve got a lot to learn,” Crosby said. “I’ll attack it head-on like I do anything else, but everything is going to be new to me. To the fans there, I’m not going to sit here and make a bunch of grand predictions or anything of that nature. I’m going there with 1 purpose, and that’s to help ultimately to get this team where it needs to be and where everybody wants to go, and that’s winning a Super Bowl. And I know that’s going to be very difficult and there’s no guarantee in that, but I’m going to give everything in my heart and soul to bring a championship to Baltimore … no more words needed for that. I’m going to lead by action. Lead fully … I want to get to that pinnacle.”
