The Buffalo Bills are coming off a season that ended in disappointment, with superstar quarterback Josh Allen and company unable to get the job done in the NFL playoffs, falling short against the Denver Broncos in the Mile High City.

With the Bills still in a championship window with their one-time NFL MVP under center, the team wants to take advantage and continue to build a roster that can compete with the elite class in the AFC.

Along with bringing in new talent on both sides of the football, the team must also retain players that have been crucial to the success in Buffalo, like Pro Bowl center Connor McGovern.

Although it seemed like there was a chance that McGovern could take his talents elsewhere in NFL free agency, Allen made sure his starting center didn’t go anywhere. McGovern said the following about Allen’s involvement during a team press conference.

“They were gonna let me test free agency,” McGovern said of the Bills. “Then our good friend No. 17 kind of got involved and wanted to make sure that this got done.”

McGovern takes a lot of pride in getting to be able to protect Allen and star running back James Cook, via the team’s website.

“It means a lot when you have a guy like [Allen] back there, an MVP, and [Cook who’s] a rushing leader,” McGovern said. “You want to protect them, so you got to invest up front; and I’m very excited that I get to be one of those guys.”

“I knew I loved it here [in Buffalo] . . . I knew they loved me. They knew I loved it here,” McGovern said. “It was easy. It was one of those things we knew it was going to happen at some time, but it was nice to finally put that pen to paper and make sure it’s finalized.”
The Bills inked McGovern to a four-year, $54 million deal.

Bills Re-Sign Tight End Dawson Knox

Along with retaining McGovern, the Bills also signed veteran tight end Dawson Knox to a new deal, making it two solid moves for Buffalo, via ESPN.

The Buffalo Bills found a way to keep tight end Dawson Knox on the 2026 roster amid a difficult cap situation by signing him to a new three-year contract, sources told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Tuesday.

During the 2025 campaign, Knox played in all 17 games, racking up 36 receptions for 417 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Buffalo also made a major move recently, acquiring star wide receiver DJ Moore in a trade with the Chicago Bears. The addition of Moore immediately addresses the team’s issues at wide receiver, giving Allen a solid downfield threat the Bills have sorely needed over the past few years.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Bills try to make another move for a wide receiver during the offseason to add more firepower to the passing game during the 2026 NFL season and beyond.
