The Chicago Bears could still squeeze in a last-minute deal for a young running back in his prime before the NFL trade deadline arrives at 4 p.m. ET today.

Amid the frenzy of deadline-day trade activity, New York Jets star running back Breece Hall made a series of cryptic posts on his social media accounts, fueling trade rumors after seeing several of his teammates traded with his latest post, which read: “…”

While NFL players sometimes post vague messages on social media that unnecessarily drum up trade speculation, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Hall “wants to be traded” away from the Jets before the trade deadline passes on Tuesday afternoon.

“BREAKING: #Jets RB Breece Hall wants to be traded, I’m told,” Schultz wrote Tuesday on X. “A little over one hour until the deadline, but Breece ‘wants to be out.'”

Naturally, Hall’s reported interest in a trade has fueled speculation that the Bears and their once-struggling run game could make a blockbuster deal for the former No. 36 overall pick. The Bears just had rookie Kyle Monangai rip off a 176-yard breakout game for their offense in Week 9, but veteran D’Andre Swift is currently out with an injury.

The clock is ticking for the Bears to make any further moves.

How Realistic is Blockbuster Trade for Breece Hall?

Hall is a prized trade target, and one the Jets seem more than willing to part ways with after dealing away superstars Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams in separate trades before the deadline. According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Jets are also not seeking an absurd return for Hall, listing a third-rounder as their desired price tag.

So, will the Bears attempt to acquire him?

Hall has nearly eclipsed 3,000 career rushing yards halfway through his fourth NFL season and done plenty to maintain his reputation as one of the league’s best young running backs through the first nine weeks of 2025, averaging 5.0 yards on 117 carries. Just last week, he rushed 18 times for two touchdowns and a season-high 133 yards against Cincinnati, surpassing 100 rushing yards for the third time this season.

The thing is, the Bears are no longer struggling in the run game as they once were. They have put up more than 200 rushing yards in two of their last three games, the exception being their loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8 — when they rushed for 98 yards.

Against the same Bengals run defense, Monangai — the Bears’ seventh-round rookie — averaged 6.8 yards per carry in his first NFL game as a workhorse running back. He finished with 176 yards, the most for a Bears running back since Matt Forte in 2011.

Now, the Bears would have a legitimate reason to want Hall if they are concerned that the groin injury that held Swift out of last week’s game against the Bengals will become a long-term issue. Even still, Hall is in the final year of his contract, which means he could turn out to be a half-season rental for the Bears. That’s hardly worth a third.

Bears Acquired Edge-Rushing Help in Latest Trade

The Bears have some time left to decide whether they will make another trade, but they did secure some pass-rushing help for their defensive line with their first of the day.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears have traded a sixth-round selection to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for defensive end Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and a seventh-round pick, adding another healthy edge rusher to their ranks after losing veteran Dayo Odeyingbo to a season-ending Achilles tear following Week 9’s win over Cincinnati.

Tryon-Shoyinka will add depth to the other defensive end position opposite Montez Sweat, who has tallied three sacks in the past three games for the Bears. He will likely play behind second-year Austin Booker, though, who returned from a knee injury to record a strip-sack in his 2025 season debut against the Bengals on Sunday.
