There was a lot of heat online for Chicago Bears rookie cornerback Malik Muhammad after a clip of his reaction to being drafted went viral due to him having, well, zero reaction.

Some people took it as Muhammad not being happy with the Bears being the team that drafted him, but most understood that it could have been a mixture of falling to the fourth round and simply being stunned that his dream of making it to the NFL had finally come true.

Now, Muhammad has broken his silence and made it clear why he had no reaction during the 2026 NFL Draft.

Bears New CB Malik Muhammad Breaks Silence on Viral Reaction

Malik Muhammad posted his response to the viral clip on a recent post on X.

“In light of my draft night video going viral, I wanted to take a moment to address it. Hearing my name called was a dream come true. I was overwhelmed with excitement and emotion.

I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity and ready to continue my career at the highest level. I can’t wait to get to work and do everything I can to make the city of Chicago proud. Thank you to the Bears organization!

#BearDown”

Muhammad also responded to the post with the comment, “Literally couldn’t even move😅 Blessed. Bear Down.”

In all honesty, he didn’t have to explain himself. The haters can say what they want, but the reaction to being drafted looks different for everyone. If anything, he looked like he’s locked in and ready to ball out during his first year with the Bears.

Muhammad Models His Game After Jaylon Johnson

In a recent interview, Muhammad shared that he models his game after Jaylon Johnson:

“In a couple of my interviews, if they were to ask me who were some of the corners that I watch in the league, I would mention Jaylon Johnson and be like ‘he’s actually nice.’ I don’t watch a lot of the new age corners. I’m really like an old school corner, but Jaylon Johnson is one of the guys that I mention.”

The Bears got a steal in Muhammad in the fourth round, and Dane Brugler of The Athletic went into detail on what he’ll bring to Chicago.

“Muhammad can be out-physicaled at times, but he plays with good reaction quickness and route instincts, which help him stay attached in man or zone. He projects as a starter, with shades of Greg Newsome II.”

Muhammad is expected to come in and immediately push for the starting corner spot opposite Johnson. That’ll only push guys like Tyrique Stevenson and Terell Smith to up their game, because if not, Muhammad is someone the Bears are extremely high on.

Even someone like Zah Frazier, the Bears’ 2025 fifth-round draft pick who’s yet to see any action, could also be in the mix for that CB2 spot.

Regardless, Muhammad looks like he’s coming in with a chip on his shoulder and could immediately become a key contributor on a loaded Bears’ secondary.
