Greg Newsome: Everything you need to know

Newsome is slated to sign a one-year deal worth up to $10 million with the Giants, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Following a 13-game stint (including playoffs) with the Jaguars, Newsome has found a new home in New York after spending his first four full NFL seasons with the Browns. Despite recording 32 total tackles and six passes defensed, including one interception, during his time in Jacksonville, the 2021 first-round pick struggled in coverage, allowing a 107.5 passer rating when targeted. However, he's shown flashes throughout his career, most notably during the 2023 season when he posted 49 total tackles, including 0.5 sacks, and 14 passes defensed, including two interceptions, while allowing a 74.8 passer rating when targeted. Now in New York, Newsome is expected to operate as one of the Giants' top boundary corners during the 2026 season.

Newsome appeared in 17 regular-season games between the Browns (five games) and Jaguars (12 games) in 2025 and accumulated 52 tackles (41 solo) and nine pass defenses (one interception). Newsome started the season on the Jaguars before being traded to the Jaguars in early October. He played a key role in both team's defenses, and despite dealing with shoulder, hamstring an ankle injuries throughout the season, he ended the 2025 campaign with a career high in total tackles. Newsome enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent and should attract offers from teams looking to upgrade their secondary.

Newsome (shoulder) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's wild-card round game against the Bills. Newsome was limited by a shoulder injury in practice throughout the week but will be available when the Jaguars host the Bills in Sunday's postseason matchup. The starting cornerback could be a key contributor since the normally run-heavy Bills offense may opt for a more pass-heavy approach to put the ball in star quarterback Josh Allen's hands against a Jaguars defense that was the best in the league at defending the run in the regular season.
