The Denver Broncos are officially bringing back running back J.K. Dobbins. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Dobbins is returning to Denver after the two sides reached an agreement in free agency.
Shortly before the report surfaced, Dobbins appeared to hint at the move himself on social media, posting a simple message on X that read “🧡 #Home.”
The post appeared to signal his return to the Broncos’ backfield in 2026.

The move gives Denver continuity in its rushing attack after a productive but injury-shortened season from the veteran.
It also answers one of the Broncos’ biggest free agency questions at the running back position.
Broncos Reward Productive First Season in Denver
Despite playing in only 10 games last season, Dobbins proved to be extremely productive and efficient.
The veteran carried the ball 153 times for 772 rushing yards and four touchdowns while averaging an impressive 5.0 yards per carry.
Before suffering a season-ending foot injury late in the year, Dobbins was among the NFL’s most productive rushers. His 772 rushing yards ranked fourth in the league at the time of the injury, highlighting just how impactful he had been in the Broncos’ offense.
Before J.K. Dobbins suffered his Week 10 injury in 2025, the Denver Broncos had one of the NFL’s most efficient rushing attacks, averaging 128.6 rushing yards per game and 4.76 yards per carry.
Following the injury, Denver’s ground game dipped to 104.6 rushing yards and 3.94 yards per carry per game, highlighting how important Dobbins was to the offense.
The Broncos originally signed Dobbins to a one-year deal after he spent the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Chargers. Denver added him shortly after selecting running back RJ Harvey in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Dobbins and Harvey look to be the Broncos’ one-two punch again in 2026.
Broncos Hope Dobbins Can Stay Healthy
Dobbins entered the NFL as a second-round pick out of Ohio State in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens.
His rookie season immediately showcased his explosiveness, as he rushed for 805 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging over six yards per carry.
However, injuries have unfortunately been a recurring storyline throughout Dobbins’ career. He missed the entire 2021 season after tearing his ACL and later dealt with additional knee complications that limited him in 2022. The following year brought another setback when he suffered an Achilles injury early in the 2023 season.
And then, of course, last year when he suffered a season-ending Lisfranc foot injury.
Despite those challenges, Dobbins has remained highly efficient when healthy. Across his career, he has averaged more than five yards per carry.
The decision to bring him back also shows the Broncos’ belief in Dobbins moving forward.
Denver had opportunities to pursue several high-profile targets at running back in free agency, including Kenneth Walker III, Tyler Allgeier, and Travis Etienne.
Instead, the Broncos ultimately chose continuity, betting that a healthy J.K. Dobbins can once again anchor their rushing attack.
