Broncos Tap Former Texans LB For Game Day vs Colts After Decision on Star

The Denver Broncos have already spent plenty of time on injury watch just two weeks into the regular season, and game day in Week 2 is no different as they visit the Indianapolis Colts. In a final roster decision, the Broncos have elevated Garret Wallow among their game-day moves.

He joins fullback Adam Prentice, who also got the call in Week 1, while the Broncos are again making running back Jaleel McLaughlin inactive in favor of Tyler Badie.

Wallow’s elevation is noteworthy for multiple reasons.

With Greenlaw down, the Broncos will turn to Wallow to fill his roster spot. Wallow was a fifth-round draft pick by the Houston Texans in 2021, and he spent part of the 2023 season and all of 2024 with the Titans.

That makes Wallow an interesting resource against a Colts team that has had the same coaching staff for the past two years.

Wallow had studied the Colts’ offense more than his Broncos teammates entering the week.

Largely a special teams contributor, Wallow is unlikely to receive reps for the Broncos on defense against the Colts. But there could be some offensive tendencies that he was hip to from his Texans and Titans tenures that are of value to the Broncos, who will play in that phase.

Wallow got the nod over 2024 undrafted free agent Levelle Bailey, whom the Broncos called up to fill Greenlaw’s roster spot last week.

Broncos LB Dre Greenlaw Trending in Right Direction

This comes on the heels of their final injury report of the week. It revealed that the Broncos would have tight end Evan Engram available against the Colts, but would also once again be without, among others, linebacker Dre Greenlaw.

Greenlaw missed a chunk of training camp, did not play in the preseason, and sat out in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans after missing last week’s practices with a quad injury.

The good news for the Broncos is that Greenlaw ended this week with a limited practice.

Still, it is an inauspicious start to the former San Francisco 49ers star’s tenure with the Broncos. He signed a two-year, $31.5 million contract in free agency this past offseason. Greenlaw also has an extensive injury history.

Tight end Nate Adkins joins Greenlaw in the inactive list for Week 2, but the Broncos will have veteran John Franklin-Myers available on the defensive line.

RJ Harvey Ready for Even Better Showing

Broncos rookie second-round draft pick and running back RJ Harvey gained 70 yards on six carries in Week 1 against the Titans, and the former college quarterback is vowing to be even more impactful going forward.

Harvey told The Denver Gazette’s Chris Tomasson he got his “jitters” out in Week 1 and that “Great things are going to come soon.”

One area he can easily make a significant improvement in? As a receiver out of the backfield.

Harvey caught one pass and lost 1 yard on his only target in Week 1. For a player who showcased his dual-threat skill set in college and compared himself to New Orleans Saints star Alvin Kamara, Harvey can and should be better in the passing game going forward for the Broncos, perhaps against the Colts.
