Garret Wallow: Everything you need to know

Wallow is in line to sign a one-year contract with the 49ers on Tuesday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Wallow played seven games for the Texans in 2025 before he was waived in December. The 49ers swooped in and claimed him off waivers. Wallow played a vital role during the playoffs due to injuries ahead of him in the depth chart, handling 105 defensive snaps over two postseason games and recording 12 tackles (five solo) in the process. With Fred Warner (ankle) expected back in 2026, the 49ers are hoping Wallow can contribute on special teams.

The 49ers claimed Wallow off waivers Monday. Wallow was waived by the Broncos on Saturday after playing seven games with the team. He missed some time time earlier this season due to a hamstring injury but appears to be past the issue after suiting up in each of Denver's past two games prior to being cut. Wallow played primarily on special teams while with the Broncos and could be used in a similar role with San Francisco.

Wallow (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game against the Chiefs. Wallow was activated from injured reserve Saturday, and he's been officially cleared to return from a four-game absence due to a hamstring injury. His return gives the Broncos another contributor on special teams and added depth at inside linebacker.
