The Green Bay Packers are entering the 2026 campaign with Super Bowl expectations. That may seem somewhat outlandish considering how this team has just one playoff win over the past three years, but the Packers feature one of the most talented rosters in the league, so if they can put all the pieces of the puzzle together, the sky’s the limit for this team.
The guy who will play the biggest role in determining just how far Green Bay goes, though, is quarterback Jordan Love. There have been quite a few highs and lows with Love during his first three seasons as the team’s starter, and while some folks aren’t sold on him just yet, former NFL head coach Steve Mariucci believes he’s capable of leading his team to a Super Bowl.
Steve Mariucci Gushes Over Jordan Love
Green Bay surprised many folks when it selected Love with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Rather than attempting to beef up the roster around Aaron Rodgers, the Packers brought in his eventual successor, and after spending three years behind the scenes, Love became the team’s starter under center in 2023.
The first three years for Love as a starter have been a mixed bag. It’s tough to be upset with what he’s done, but it also feels like he’s left a lot of big plays on the table. Love has battled through injuries in each of the past two seasons, which certainly hasn’t helped, but at some point, he’s going to have to prove he’s capable of leading Green Bay to a championship like Rodgers and Brett Favre did before him.
The Packers made an effort to consolidate their offensive attack this offseason, which resulted in the front office letting Romeo Doubs walk in free agency and Dontayvion Wicks getting traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. Love still has more than enough weapons to work with, though, and in an interview with casino.org, Mariucci made it abundantly clear that he feels the former first-round pick is capable of taking this team to the promised land.
“He’s a clever player who is very well thought out in what he says and how he acts,” Mariucci said. “He conducts himself well and trains incredibly hard, so I don’t think it’s too big for Love to emulate (Favre and Rodgers’) success and win a Super Bowl.”

Love has really only played three seasons in the pros, but he’s already set to enter his age-28 season, so he doesn’t have as much time as you would expect. Quarterbacks can certainly play at a high level into their 30s, but in order for the Packers to invest in Love with another big-money contract extension, he’s going to have to prove he can lead his team on a deep playoff run.
You can make an argument that the roster Green Bay is sporting is the most talented one it has had over the past few years. If Love can’t get out of his own way with foolish mistakes or surprisingly poor games, though, it won’t matter. Love is a good quarterback, but it’s time for him to go from being a good quarterback to a great quarterback, or else the Packers will have some serious questions to ask at this position.
