The Houston Texans were the final stop in a career many are celebrating following the latest development for Robert Woods.

Woods announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday.

The outpouring of support came from all corners, including his former Texans teammates. Woods expressed gratitude to everyone who helped him on a journey spanning 12 seasons. It also resulted in a Super Bowl victory.

Woods, a second-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2013, spent last season on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad, but played his final NFL game for the Texans in 2024.

He was also with the organization for the 2023 campaign.

Woods had 60 receptions for 629 yards and 1 touchdown during his tenure with the Texans. He retired as a Los Angeles Ram, with whom he enjoyed his longest tenure. He thanked every team he was with, though. Woods also played for the Tennessee Titans.

“After 27 unforgettable years of pouring my heart into this game, and 13 incredible years in the NFL It’s time for me to step away from playing the sport that has given me everything. Football has never just been a game to me it has been my passion, my purpose, and my lifelong dream. I cherished every moment my cleats touched the grass. Every time I stepped onto the field, I was determined to leave a piece of myself in every snap,” Woods posted on Instagram on February 17.

“To the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, and Pittsburgh Steelers – thank you for giving me the opportunity to live out my dream at the highest level.”

Woods finished his career with a 683-8,233-38 line.

The Rams celebrated Woods’ tenure with them, which began their second season back in LA and lasted five seasons. Woods spent four seasons with the Bills and one with the Titans, with the latter serving as a precursor to his time with the Texans.

Woods’ time with the Texans was among the shorter stints with a team in his career, but reactions to his decision to retire speak volumes about the impact that he made.

Despite his short time with the Texans, Woods made his presence felt, and a couple of his former teammates have since offered messages of support as the veteran playmaker embarks on a new phase of life.

“Yessuhh Og [fingers crossed/locked in emoji],” Texans wide receiver Nico Collins posted in the comment section of Woods’ post.

Fellow wideout Tank Dell posted, “My brotha!”

“May retirement be great for you bro [salute and 100 emojis],” Texans running back Joe Mixon posted to his Instagram story on February 16, adding “Congrats on a great career bro you forever got a brother in me [salute and raised fist emojis] in the replies of Woods’ post.”

Unlike Collins and Dell, Mixon and Woods were only teammates for one of his two seasons with the Texans. Houston acquired the running back in a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024.

Woods earned $77.8 million in his championship-winning career, per Over The Cap.
