Three Miami Dolphins players were fined by the NFL for incidents during their Week 14 game against the New York Jets, the league announced Saturday.
Running back De’Von Achane was fined $8,238 for unsportsmanlike conduct stemming from a violent gesture with 8:54 left in the first quarter, while backup running back Jaylen Wright received a $6,388 fine for a similar violation at the same time. Both players performed the “slime” or “nose wipe” gesture shortly after Achane rushed for a 13-yard touchdown.
The league updated its list of unsportsmanlike conduct acts in March 2025 to include several gestures, adding to previously banned actions such as throat slashes, simulated firing or brandishing of a gun, the “nose wipe,” and sexually suggestive gestures.
Safety Ashtyn Davis received the largest fine, $13,611, for unnecessary roughness after delivering a hit on a defenseless player with 2:24 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Dolphins Defeat Jets in Cold New Jersey
The Dolphins defeated the Jets, 34-10, at a cold MetLife Stadium.
Tua Tagovailoa threw a touchdown pass to remain undefeated against his AFC East rivals, while Miami rushed for three scores and pulled away for a 34-10 win Sunday, extending its winning streak to four games. The Dolphins’ defense also smothered an already struggling Jets offense.
“That’s a formula to win games in December,” coach Mike McDaniel said postgame.
Tagovailoa improved to 7-0 as a starter against the Jets and 8-0 overall in games he has played versus the AFC East rival. Despite the victory, the chilly conditions remained a hurdle: with temperatures at 41 degrees at kickoff, Tagovailoa fell to 1-7 in his career in games played at 46 degrees or colder.
“I felt good, but it’s football,” Tagovailoa said. “Whether it’s hot, whether it’s cold, you’ve got to go out there and you’ve got to play.”
Running Game Was Hitting on All Cylinders
Achane rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown before exiting in the second quarter with a rib injury after a 29-yard run. McDaniel said the star back could have returned in “an emergency,” but it wasn’t necessary. Wright stepped in and delivered a career-best performance, rushing for 107 yards and his first NFL touchdown. Rookie Ollie Gordon II also scored on the ground as Miami (6-7) piled up 239 rushing yards and won its fifth game in the last six, staying in the playoff race after opening the season 1-6.

“I don’t think I’ve been in the league where I’ve had a stretch necessarily like this one,” Tagovailoa said, “in terms of the start to the year and finding that flow toward the later end of the year.”
Tagovailoa completed 13 of 21 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown to Jaylen Waddle before giving way in the closing minutes with the outcome decided. Zach Wilson — the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft — finished the game for Miami.
