Schmitz is participating in drills during OTAs. Schmitz missed the last game of the Giants' 2023 season with a shin injury, but as of now it looks like he'll be ready to go for the start of the 2024 campaign. He figures to start at center this year.
Neal participated in drills during OTAs on Monday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. Neal underwent surgery for a fractured ankle back in December, but he's apparently now healthy enough for football activities again. He's been largely disappointing at right tackle since the Giants selected him with the seventh overall pick in 2022, but he doesn't turn 24 until September, so it might still be too early to declare him a draft bust.
Ezeudu took practice reps at left tackle during OTAs on Monday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. Ezeudu struggled at left tackle last season when he filled in for an injured Andrew Thomas, but coach Brian Daboll wants to keep a contingency plan in place in case the latter gets hurt again. If not though, Ezeudu still probably projects to start at guard, if at all, this year.
Ford-Wheaton (knee) was an active participant at the Giants' team OTAs this week, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Ford-Wheaton missed the entirety of last season after suffering a torn ACL in the preseason, but he now looks to be all set to return to the field in 2024. The wide receiver joined New York as an undrafted free agent in 2023 after a senior campaign with West Virginia in which he secured 62 receptions for 675 yards and seven touchdowns and he'll attempt to crack the Giants' active roster in order to make his NFL debut this year.
Cager (groin) has been an active participant at the Giants' OTAs, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Cager finished the 2023 season on injured reserve with a groin injury, which he has now fully recovered from. The tight end appeared in 11 games with the Giants last season, catching four passes for 36 yards and a touchdown while operating primarily as a special-teams player, a role he'll likely remain in if he cracks the active roster in 2024.
Coach Brian Daboll relayed Thursday that Waller remains absent from the Giants' OTAs, Pat Leonard of the Daily News reports. Waller's absence isn't surprising given that he's considering retirement, but Daboll indicated that the Giants plan to give the 31-year-old tight end the time he needs to make a call on his plans for 2024."[We will] let Darren take what [time] he needs to take, and once the decision is made, we'll go from there," Daboll noted Thursday. If Waller elects not to play this season, Daniel Bellingerwould be the next man up in a TE corps that also currently includes Theo Johnson, Jack Stoll, Chris Manhertz, Lawrence Cager and Tyree Jackson.
Jones (knee) said Thursday he anticipates starting Week 1, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports. Jones has been participating in 7-on-7 drills at OTAs and said "I don't have any doubt about it" when asked whether he'd suit up to take on the Vikings in Week 1. Additionally, he's already shed his knee brace in workouts, and all signs are that his recovery from a right ACL tear is proceeding smoothly. Jones signed a four-year, $160 million extension last offseason, but that may not give him significant job security if he logs an uninspiring 2024 campaign given both his injury history, and his terrible start to the 2023 season. It may not even be out of the realm of possibility that Drew Lock pushes for the Giants' starting gig, should he log a strong offseason.
