The New York Giants lost a heartbreaker in Dallas on Sunday — a shootout ended in game-winning field goal as the clock expired in overtime.
Head coach Brian Daboll’s career record fell to 18-34 and despite excellent play from veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, the Giants are 0-2 on the season.
“This one hurts,” Daboll said postgame. “These guys battled and for 60-plus minutes. This one hurts.”

Giants-Cowboys was an Exciting Game with Predictable Outcome
What was expected to be a blowout turned into a thrilling back-and-forth clash between the Giants and Cowboys, stretching all the way to the final moments of overtime. Without the 26 combined penalties, this game could have easily gone down as an instant classic.
Trailing 13-10 at halftime, the Cowboys grabbed the lead in the third quarter on Javonte Williams’ 30-yard touchdown run. The Giants answered early in the fourth, as Graham Gano’s third field goal evened the score at 16-16.
Cowboys‘ Miles Sanders finished an 85-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run, but the Giants quickly answered with touchdowns from Skattebo and Robinson.
With 52 seconds left, Dak Prescott connected with George Pickens on a 6-yard touchdown to put Dallas ahead 34-30. Wilson, however, needed just three plays to reclaim the lead, hitting Malik Nabers on a 48-yard bomb for a 37-34 Giants edge with 25 seconds remaining.
Prescott then drove the Cowboys into position for Brandon Aubrey’s booming game-tying field goal at the buzzer, forcing overtime.
The Giants and Cowboys battled through overtime until a desperate pass from Wilson was picked off by Donovan Wilson, giving Prescott another opportunity to deliver against the Giants. Prescott, now 14-2 in his career against the NFC East rival, set up a chip-shot walk-off field goal from Aubrey to seal the victory.
Daboll Compliments Russell Wilson, But Wants More
Prescott and Wilson delivered standout performances. Prescott was 38-for-52, throwing for 361 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Wilson, on the other hand, completed 30 of 41 passes for 450 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.
“I thought he played well,” Daboll said of Wilson. “Made some plays, attack(ed) certain things we wanted to attack.
Wilson connected on a few big plays down the field on Sunday.
“Explosive plays help, obviously,” Daboll said. “Collectively, just a couple plays short.”
Daboll Addresses James Hudson, Penalties
Offensive tackle James Hudson committed four penalties on a single possession on Sunday. The Giants’ coaching staff promptly benched him, and he appeared visibly frustrated upon returning to the sideline.
Hudson committed two unnecessary roughness penalties and two false starts during the sequence. He was seen voicing his frustration at head coach Brian Daboll and others on the sideline, a moment captured on the FOX broadcast. Per “NFL on CBS,” Hudson is the first player since 2000 to be flagged four times on a single drive.
At one point, he appeared to strike Cowboys defensive end James Houston in the helmet as Houston slipped out of his stance.
Daboll benched Hudson because of the penalties, but defended the tackle postgame.
“It’s not like he wants to go out there and commit these… have these penalties,” he said. “You got the one where the guy slipped and he hit him in the head.”
