There’s a new era dawning in the New York Giants‘ backfield.
As Saquon Barkley looks to defend his NFL Offensive Player of The Year Award 96 miles south, the Giants are bullish on the duo of Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Cam Skattebo being productive and explosive elements of the offense.
If Tracy and Skattebo live up to or exceed expectations during training camp and the preseason this summer, it raises significant doubt about veteran Devin Singletary‘s role moving forward.
Over at Pro Football Network, analyst Jacob Infante suggests Singletary could be in danger of being cut later this summer, after opening last season atop the Giants’ running back depth chart.
“The New York Giants started the 2024 season,” Infante writes for PFN. “With Devin Singletary as their starting running back. As time went on, then-rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. began to start eating away at his touches. Now, Singletary could find himself off the Giants’ roster entirely in 2025.
“Much of that will depend on how Cam Skattebo looks in camp. If New York is confident that he can be their second-string back right away, Singletary would fall down the depth chart. Eric Gray has more special-teams experience and is two years younger than Singletary, which could make the veteran a potential cut candidate.”
Tracy looked plenty competent as a rookie, rushing for 839 yards and five touchdowns, with three 100-plus yard rushing performances mixed in and figures to be the lead-dog in the Giants’ backfield in his second season.
Meanwhile, Skattebo arrives as the Giants’ fourth-round selection in this spring’s draft after 1,711 yards with 21 touchdowns while adding 358 receiving yards last season at Arizona State and was a standout for the Giants’ offense during this spring’s OTA and minicamp practices.
If the Giants believe Tracy and Skattebo can power the ground attack, a youth movement could take foot with Singletary left on the outside looking in when New York trims its roster.
Malik Nabers Bullish on Giants’ Offense

Luke Hales | GettyNew York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers believes the offense could take major strides in 2025.
Malik Nabers was the spark that lit the fuse for the Giants’ offense, unfortunately for New York, though, those explosive moments were few and far between in 2024.
As the former first-round wide receiver out of LSU enters his second season, Nabers says he believes thanks to the arrival of veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, and some reinforcements along the line of scrimmage that the fireworks show might just be beginning for the Giants.
“I think we can be very, very explosive,” Nabers told reporters, following the first practice of training camp. “We’ve got a lot of talent on our side of the football. We just have to load the mental errors down, make sure we’re all confident in what we’re doing, and I’ll say the sky is the limit for us. We’ve just got to narrow some of the little things down and we should be up and rolling.”
Back on the field after battling through the lingering effects of a foot injury suffered last season, Nabers aims to build on a stellar rookie campaign in which he caught 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns, in just 15 games, despite wildly inconsistent quarterback play.
Nabers quickly developed a reputation as one of the most dangerous receivers in the league in 2024, which he’s hoping to build on in a 2025 season that could offer much more optimism for the Giants.
The six-foot and 200-pound receiver with game altering speed believes that there are still aspects of his game that he can improve to help drive more wins this upcoming season.
“I mean granted, like you said, I had a lot of success,” Nabers said. “But there’s a lot more success that I wanted to have. I missed two games. Moving forward, what I know now is I can play in the league, I can do great things, but it’s all about how you look at last year, try to clean up a lot of little mental errors, little steps that I had last year.
“I was just locked in on finding those little things to better myself. I feel like once you better yourself, every year in the league, you start to make more and more progress as you go. That’s the biggest step that I took.”
Giants’ Russell Wilson Fired Up to Play With Malik Nabers

Ishika Samant | Getty New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson could bring out the best in wide receiver Malik Nabers.
Nabers might be the biggest beneficiary of Wilson’s New York arrival.
Given Wilson’s propensity for pushing the ball deep downfield and boasting a career 8.7 Air Yards per Attempt average, the Giants may be primed to fully take advantage of Nabers’ field-stretching ability.
Before even taking the field for a regular season game together, Wilson is already all-in on Nabers and his upside.
“Malik and I have a great relationship,” Wilson told reporters following Wednesday’s first practice of training camp. He has the locker right next to me actually, and we got to spend a lot of time in San Diego together. I just love how he works. A lot of times you get talented guys and their work ethic is super high, but can they keep it consistent? That’s what you’re always looking for. And I think his consistency and his love for the game, his consistency in his playmaking, his tenacity for the game, his leadership, his thought process, communication.
“He’s not shy, he’s great in the meetings. Anytime you have a young star receiver for me and especially when you have our meetings with the receivers and tight ends and stuff like that, it’s the communication that we always have. But then also you want those guys to be interactive and communicate too. And he does a tremendous job of that. He’s communicating to the other guys about what he sees, what he would do, all these different things. I thought he had a great day today.”
Beyond Nabers’ leadership role that Wilson says he is stepping into, Wilson sees the potential for the Giants’ passing game with Nabers as the focal point, even after just one strong practice together.
“He made some really big plays,” Wilson said. “I think he had probably two or three touchdowns down there for sure. I think there’s going to be more to him and we’re going to keep developing. Obviously, we’re just getting started and just kind of warming up and getting hot, but we’re excited to work together.”
