The New York Giants are knee-deep in training camp, and pretty soon, they’ll be coming up on the start of the preseason and their regular season, which is packed with difficult games. It’s still mind-blowing that the Giants have the toughest schedule in the league, even though they had such a bad record last year. being a 3-14 record.
But, the Giants need to look to the future. They have head coach Brian Daboll heading up a huge quarterback room with veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, rookie Jaxson Dart and returning signal-called Tommy DeVito. Daboll has to deliver this year, there’s no question about it.
So, how should the Giants feel about their coaching staff this season? Well, ESPN has released its tally of the best coaching staffs in the NFL. In the feature, Ben Solak breaks down all of the NFL team’s staffs and ranks them from best to worst. So, where do the New York Giants fall? Be careful about reading past this point, because it’s not good news.
New York Giants Coaching Staff Gets Worst Spot
While there’s lots of talk about the best players in the NFL leading up to the 2025-26 season, and rightly so, sometimes, it’s easy to overlook that there are other factors to a team’s success. One of the biggest measures of how well a team is going to do during the season, for any sport, is their coaching staff.
From the head coach down to the coordinators and their staff, having a solid coaching staff is so critical to making sure a team thrives. So, let’s get into where the Giants land. It’s not good.

GettyHead coach Brian Daboll and Malik Nabers #1 of the New York Giants talk during training camp at Quest Diagnostics Training Center on July 24, 2025 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Solak ranks the Giants’ coaching staff, including head coach Daboll, dead last in the NFL. That’s horrible. Sure, it’s just someone’s opinion, but it doesn’t feel good to read this if you’re something who cheers for the Giants.
“While the offensive brain trust of Daboll and Kafka has yet to string together multiple seasons of above-average offense, there are pockets of innovation,” he notes in the piece. “It’s not much to hang a hat on, but if and when we see Jaxson Dart this season at quarterback, I expect the team to have some smart, easy ways to get him into a rhythm and involved in the running game. I can at least see the visions in New York, even if the plane often struggles to get off the ground.”
Solak adds to his dismal predicting, stating, “It’s tough to believe in a high ceiling with the Giants’ current staff.” Let’s prove him wrong.
PFF Names the Best NFL Coaches Ahead of the 2025-26 Season
PFF has also released their tally of the top 10 best NFL head coaches. Of course, Daboll isn’t on here. He picks Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid at No. 1.
“Like Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots teams before them, the Kansas City Chiefs are the masters of situational football,” Dalton Wasserman says in the feature, published on June 24. Reid does have the stats to show he’s one of the top in the NFL right now and probably of all time.
