The Cleveland Browns have raided the New York Jets’ coffers.
Cleveland dot com’s Mary Kay Cabot revealed on social media that the Browns “plan to hire” New York Jets tight ends coach Jeff Blasko for the same role. The deal wasn’t finalized at the time of her post.
She revealed that Blasko worked under new head coach Todd Monken when he was the Browns’ offensive cooridator in 2019. At that time, Blasko was an assistant offensive line coach.
Blasko just finished his first season with the Jets. Before coming to New York, the veteran coach spent five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.
This is a disappointing loss for the Jets coaching staff. The Jets’ tight end room showed plenty of flashes during the 2025 season.
Jeremy Ruckert had a career year in games started, targets, receptions; he didn’t drop a pass this season, first downs converted, and he caught the first touchdown reception of his young career.
Mason Taylor, before getting hurt, was on pace to set the Jets franchise record for receptions by a rookie tight end.
What the Heck Happened?
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic revealed on Saturday, January 21, that Jets tight ends coach Jeff Blasko is “for sure” returning to the team in 2026.
Less than two weeks later, he is for sure leaving the Jets. What gives?
“Jets TE coach Jeff Blasko is not returning, it turns out. New Jets OC will likely get to choose his staff. I still expect OL coach Steve Heiden to stick as of now,” Rosenblatt responded.
“Might be better to point out which Jets position coaches/coordinators are returning than the ones who aren’t at this point. I count five position coaches/coordinators from last year that are returning (for now): Chris Banjo (ST), Steve Heiden (OL), Shawn Jefferson (WR), Nic McKissic-Luke (RB), [and] Chris Harris (DBs/pass game coordinator),” Rosenblatt added.
Social Media Responses to Intense Jets Coaching Turnover This Offseason
“This is *wild*,” NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY responded to the amount of turnover on the Jets coaching staff over the past month.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini noted that this was the 10th coaching staff departure of the offseason for head coach Aaron Glenn. That includes two of his three coordinators and several key positional coaches.
Jets Might Not Be Done Making Changes
The green and white have yet to hire a new offensive coordinator. This past week, the Jets virtually interviewed five candidates for that vacancy.
Over the coming days, the Jets will speak with the three selected finalists in person. After those conversations are complete, the Jets will make a hire.
The three finalists for the job are all veteran, experienced play-callers: Frank Reich, Greg Roman, and Darrell Bevell.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini told radio host Jake Asman and former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum on “New York GameDay” on Sunday, February 1, in the morning that the Jets should have their next OC in the next “24 to 48 hours.”
Details on the Power the Next OC Will Wield
NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY explained on “Jets Final Drive” that head coach Aaron Glenn is looking for a “head coach of the offense.”
That selected invidaul is expected to get the keys to the car. He will be allowed to make hiring/firing decisions on assistants, he will call the plays, and that person will have full personnel control, Hughes explained.
In other words, that newly hired person could decide to get rid of even more members of the staff who remain employed.
