Fansided's Austen Bundy argued the Pittsburgh Steelers should acquire quarterback Tanner McKee from the Philadelphia Eagles amid Aaron Rodgers uncertainty.

With the NFL Draft fast approaching, the Pittsburgh Steelers don’t have an answer at the quarterback position. While Aaron Rodgers remains unsigned, could Pittsburgh have its eyes set on using one of its 12 draft picks on a future starter at quarterback?

Steelers GM Omar Khan and head coach Mike McCarthy didn’t comment on what position they might draft during Monday’s pre-draft press conference, but they did provide a positive update on the communication between the organization and Rodgers. In fact, it seems like things are in a great place between the two parties.

The Pittsburgh Steelers Aren’t Panicking

Omar Khan

GettyOmar Khan has been with the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2001.

Here is what Khan had to say about the communication between the organization and Rodgers during this offseason:

“We have had some great communication with Aaron. Nothing has changed, but it all has been positive and good. He knows how we feel about him and we know how he feels about us.”

Aside from an actual resolution, it sounds like things are trending in the direction of Rodgers returning. Khan’s answer is proof that the franchise isn’t rushing to make a snap decision. Especially with McCarthy’s history with Rodgers, the team is not operating in the fog. While it might be hard for Steelers fans to deal with the unknown, they should trust the organization in this situation. Again, going back to McCarthy, his offensive background should greatly help improve the team’s performance on that side of the ball, with or without Rodgers under center.

The Steelers Should Be Seen as Contenders in 2026

If Rodgers returns to play for McCarthy and the Steelers in 2026, Pittsburgh should not be slept on. Remember, despite playing at 42 years of age with a fractured wrist late in the year, Rodgers recorded 25 total touchdowns and posted a passer rating of 94.8. He wasn’t his vintage 2011 self, but he played like a top-10 quarterback for a lot of the year. Without his consistency and leadership, the Steelers wouldn’t have made it to the postseason.

Should he come back in 2026, he will be on a deeper offense. Led by an experienced offensive play-caller in McCarthy, Pittsburgh’s offense is already more talented, and the draft hasn’t even taken place. The additions of veteran wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and all-purpose running back Rico Dowdle will certainly add to a group that already includes DK Metcalf and Jaylen Warren.

The icing on the cake would be the four-time MVP, Rodgers, making a return for his 22nd career season. On a veteran-laden team that includes Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt, Jalen Ramsey, Metcalf, and others, having that safety net at quarterback in Rodgers would be significant. But again, as things stand right now, nothing is official, and Rodgers is still without a team. With the NFL Draft just a couple of days away from kicking off in Pittsburgh, time can only tell whether or not the Steelers can get an official deal done with Rodgers.
