The season ended in embarrassing fashion for the San Francisco 49ers, falling 41-6 on the road in Seattle in the divisional round of the NFC playoffs. Getting blown out in the playoffs with the whole league watching isn’t ideal, but the 49ers still won 12 games in one of the most loaded divisions in NFL history and won a road playoff game in Philadelphia last week. All in all, there were a lot of positives for San Francisco to take away from this season, even if it ended in bitter fashion.

Against the Seahawks’ swarming defense, the 49ers had just 236 yards of total offense, turned the ball over three times, and failed to convert a fourth down. San Francisco had just 128 team passing yards, averaged 4.0 yards per carry, and failed to generate a single explosive play of over 20 yards.

Despite some inspired play from their wounded defense at times in this game, the 49ers had no answers on offense. Now, San Francisco will look to regroup during the offseason and prepare for another playoff run next year.

Back in Week 1 (against the Seahawks, ironically), 49ers QB Brock Purdy suffered a turf toe injury that caused him to miss the next two games. He re-aggravated it in his return in Week 4 against the Jaguars and subsequently missed the next six games rehabbing his toe, during which time San Francisco backup QB Mac Jones held down the fort.

After Purdy returned in Week 11, he was sensational. On the season, he threw for 2,167 yards and 20 touchdowns in just nine regular-season games. His best game came against the Colts in December, when he threw for 295 yards and five touchdowns while completing 73.5 percent of his passes.

“Yeah, I’m in a good spot with that,” Purdy said on his toe injury after the 49ers’ loss to the Seahawks. “For me to go out and play the way I need to play — obviously, the way I can run around and scramble and things — I don’t think about it. Obviously I’m doing my rehab and stuff with it still, and I will in the offseason, but I feel really good with that. So I’m good.”

The San Francisco 49ers Dealt With an Astronomical Number of Key Injuries

It’s not just Purdy. The 49ers won 12 regular-season games plus a road playoff game as star after star went down with serious, season-ending injuries. Top WR Brandon Aiyuk suffered a serious knee injury midway through last season and never suited up in 2025. All-Pros ED Nick Bosa, LB Fred Warner, and TE George Kittle were all lost for the season due to injury.

Other starters and key reserves went down with injuries, too. Rookie first-round ED Mykel Williams, LB Tatum Bethune, G Ben Bartch, and many more all missed time or missed the rest of the season. Getting healthy will no doubt be a key part of the 49ers’ offseason.
