The Seattle Seahawks continue to make moves.

The Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons agreed to a trade just hours before the NFL requires all teams to finalize their 53-man rosters on August 26, 2025. Seattle landed a late-round pick while Atlanta adds some much-needed depth on the offensive line.

The Seahawks have traded offensive tackle Michael Jerrell to the Falcons for a 2027 seventh-round pick, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. This news comes as Falcons right tackle Kaleb McGary is expected to miss significant time with a leg injury.

It is especially notable given Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is left handed, meaning the right side of the offensive line is especially important. Jerrell played in 10 games, including three starts, for the Seahawks in 2024.

“One of the first big moves,” The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta noted in an August 26, message on X. Seahawks have Josh Jones set as the swing backup tackle.

Here’s what you need to know about the Seahawks-Falcons trade.

The Seahawks Face Their Own Questions on the Offensive Line

The Seahawks have their own offensive line questions as it remains to be seen if the front office did enough to address the position this offseason. All eyes will be on Seahawks’ first-round pick Grey Zabel to see how the guard performs during his rookie season.

“Thought Seattle would hang into Jerrell, but the Falcons have injuries there and Amari Kight had been pushing him,” Emerald Spectrum’s Corbin Smith said on August 26.

Seahawks News: RB Damien Martinez Among the Notable Roster Cuts for Seattle

Elsewhere, the Seahawks are finalizing their team’s roster. Rookie running back Damien Martinez is among the notable final roster cuts for Seattle.

The Seahawks are releasing running back Damien Martinez, sources tell @CBSSports,” Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports detailed in an August 26, message on X. “Was a seventh-round draft pick in April. Ran for 1,002 yards and 10 touchdowns last year at Miami.”

Michael Jerrell Was Projected to Make the Seahawks Final Roster Prior to Being Traded to the Falcons

Prior to the trade news, The Athletic’s Michael-Shawn Dugar projected Jerrell would be among the offensive linemen to make the Seahawks final roster. The move could open up a roster spot for another offensive linemen or a completely different position of need.

Dugar projects the following offensive linemen to be released: Sataoa Laumea, Bryce Cabeldue, Mason Richman, Amari Kight, Luke Felix-Fualalo and Federico Maranges.

(Christian) Haynes, another player whose stock has dropped over the last month, didn’t play Saturday because of a pectoral injury,” Dugar wrote in an August 23, article titled, “Seahawks’ final roster projection: Uncertainty at wide receiver and with OL depth.” The injury is not as serious as the Seahawks initially thought, but ‘we’re not sure right now how long it’s going to be,’ Macdonald said.

“Seattle has reason to be optimistic about its top eight linemen: Cross, Zabel, Lucas, Sundell, Bradford, Jones, Oluwatimi and Jerrell. But there’s a steep drop-off in talent after that group. I’ll pencil in Haynes for now, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the ninth (or 10th) player on Seattle’s Week 1 roster is either currently on another team or a free agent.”
