Pete Carroll: Where Is Ex-Seahawks Coach Now Amid Seattle’s Super Bowl Run?

Pete Carroll is no longer the coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

Few people are associated with the Seattle Seahawks more than Pete Carroll after leading the franchise to two Super Bowl appearances, including the team’s lone championship. The Seahawks are back in the Super Bowl, but a familiar face is missing.

Carroll is no longer the Seahawks coach with Mike Macdonald replacing the legend in 2024. The Seahawks termed it a parting of ways, but it has become clear that Carroll was essentially fired by Seattle in January 2024.

Seattle initially announced that Carroll would have an advisory role with the Seahawks, but this never came to fruition. Instead, Carroll took the 2024 NFL season off from football.

Carroll returned to the sideline in 2025 after being named the Las Vegas Raiders head coach in January 2025. The coach was reunited with former Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith after a blockbuster trade. Unfortunately, the Raiders went 3-14 in 2025, and Carroll was fired in January after just one season.

Carroll has been quiet amid the Seahawks’ Super Bowl run. Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed, one of the lone holdovers from the team’s Legion of Boom era, admitted he has not heard from Carroll recently.

“I haven’t heard from Pete in a minute,” Reed told Heavy Sports ahead of the Super Bowl.

Here’s what you need to know about Carroll and the Seahawks.

Pete Carroll on Seattle: ‘It’s Still Home to Me’

The former Seahawks coach has spoken glowingly about his time in Seattle. Carroll revealed his family still calls Seattle home.

“They were great years,” Carroll said of his time with the Seahawks in February 2025, per Seahawks.com. “It’s still home to me.”

“… Taking that effort to Seattle, we were rewarded so extraordinarily because of the 12s and the way that they love their teams. So it was an unforgettable relationship,” Carroll added.

“And I’m never going to lose connection with them. I just don’t want to. So I’m going to do everything I can to stay connected as much as possible.”

Is Pete Carroll at Today’s Super Bowl Between the Seahawks & Patriots?

The Seahawks-Patriots matchup is a rematch of the Super Bowl played in 2015, where Seattle lost in heartbreaking fashion. Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson threw an interception on the one-yard line instead of handing the ball to Marshawn Lynch for a potential game-winning touchdown.

Despite growing up in the Bay Area, Carroll has been absent from the Super Bowl festivities. It is unclear whether Carroll will attend today’s Super Bowl, but it would be a surprise if the team’s former coach was found at Levi’s Stadium.

“I would have done anything in my power to change that moment,” Carroll said of the Super Bowl heartbreak during a 2024 interview on the “Politickin’” podcast where Lynch was also a guest, per Field Gulls. “But the moment happened too quickly. Then it was gone. It was gone before it even happened.

“It had nothing to do with all the storylines about some other players or some other agenda – that’s not how the game works. It happened so fast – they substitute, we do this, boom, the call is made – and it just happened. And we got smacked in the frickin’ nuts by it.”

Carroll has continued to take the blame for the failed play call instead of pointing to former offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

“We did it the way we always did,” Carroll added. “There’s defensive coordinators and offensive coordinators, and they call the stuff, and we play the game.

“And I’m responsible for every call that was ever made.”
