The Seattle Seahawks are extending a chance to Trevon Diggs to revive his career on a contract that puts the burden on the former All-Pro to prove himself.

Seattle’s one-year agreement with the veteran cornerback is for the 2026 minimum salary of $1.215 million, ESPN’s Brady Henderson reported Thursday.

Henderson added that he was still working to determine whether the contract includes incentives beyond that figure.

The number connects important context to Diggs’ arrival.

The former Dallas Cowboys standout comes to Seattle boasting two Pro Bowl selections, 20 career interceptions and a first-team All-Pro honor.

Nevertheless, his newest contract looks more like an audition than a reward for what he accomplished earlier in his career.

Diggs’ Contract Makes Seahawks’ Message Clear

Diggs told reporters this week that he’s healthy after spending much of the past few seasons dealing with injuries. He called this his first offseason in which he was able to train instead of rehab, an encouraging development after knee issues disrupted his time in Dallas.

“I’m looking to show that I’m still the best,” Diggs said after signing, via The Associated Press. “I’m looking to show that I just want to win and be there for my teammates and be a great teammate and be a great player.”

His peak is easy to remember. Diggs led the NFL with 11 interceptions in 2021 and earned first-team All-Pro honors that season. He followed with another Pro Bowl selection in 2022.

The years since have been far less stable.

Diggs tore his ACL in 2023 and later underwent another major knee surgery. His availability has been limited over the past three seasons, and his 2025 campaign ended with stops in Dallas and with the Green Bay Packers.

Dallas waived him late last December after he returned from injured reserve.

Green Bay claimed him shortly afterward, but Diggs played only one defensive snap in the Packers’ wild-card loss before his release in January.

That history explains why the Seahawks snagged Diggs at veteran minimum, limiting their financial exposure while supplying a platform to show the injuries haven’t permanently changed his game.

Seattle’s secondary opens the door Diggs in terms of playing time

Devon Witherspoon remains the main feature after agreeing to a four-year, $132 million extension, while Josh Jobe returns after starting throughout Seattle’s Super Bowl run.

The opening for Diggs has to do with the players behind them.

Third-round rookie Julian Neal has missed time during camp, and Seattle also has an agreement in place with Terrion Arnold, whose status is uncertain amid his ongoing legal situation.

Seattle’s recent moves make clear that it is continuing to search for answers at cornerback.

Diggs also enters a defense with recognized faces. He previously played with DeMarcus Lawrence in Dallas and knows Jobe from Alabama. Defensive coordinator Aden Durde was on the Cowboys’ staff during part of Diggs’ tenure there.

The veteran said those connections helped make Seattle feel like the right landing spot, and he praised a defense that creates pressure and turnovers.

For the Seahawks, the setup is straightforward.

If Diggs shows enough when on the field, Seattle could come away with an experienced corner for close to the league minimum.

On the flip side, if his previous form looks out of reach, the commitment is modest.
