The Buffalo Bills are finalizing a deal to make offensive coordinator Joe Brady their new head coach on a five-year contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter—and that decision just significantly improved the Tennessee Titans’ chances of landing Brian Daboll as their offensive coordinator.
Schefter reported Tuesday that Brady is signing a five-year deal with Buffalo after spending the past two seasons as the Bills’ offensive coordinator. The move eliminates one of Daboll’s remaining head coaching opportunities and increases the likelihood he winds up in Tennessee working with rookie quarterback Cam Ward.
Buffalo is now off the table. The Raiders remain one of the only obstacles standing between the Titans and their top offensive coordinator target.
UPDATE: Brian Daboll is expected to take the Titans’ OC job, contingent upon not getting the Las Vegas gig, per Adam Schefter.
Buffalo Bills Promote Joe Brady to Head Coach, Brian Daboll Could Now Join Tennessee Titans
Daboll interviewed for the Bills’ head coaching vacancy on Jan. 21, according to Buffalo’s official communications and multiple reports. NFL Insider Mike Garafolo indicated the interview went well, which made sense given Daboll’s four-year run as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator from 2018-21.
During that stretch, Daboll helped develop Josh Allen into an MVP candidate and built one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses. He parlayed that success into the New York Giants‘ head coaching job in 2022, where he compiled a 24-43-1 record across four seasons before being fired midseason in 2025.
Buffalo’s decision to hire Brady instead means Daboll’s focus narrows to the Raiders’ head coaching job. If Las Vegas passes on him, the path to Tennessee becomes clear.
Titans Could Use Brian Daboll to Develop Cam Ward
Tennessee’s need for Daboll intensified a few daysa go when Arthur Smith—another offensive coordinator candidate they’d been pursuing—accepted the offensive coordinator job at Ohio State. Smith left the Pittsburgh Steelers to take over the Buckeyes’ offense after Brian Hartline departed for the South Florida head coaching position.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported last Sunday that Tennessee wants Daboll hired immediately, but they’re stuck waiting while he pursues head coaching opportunities. The Bills’ decision to promote Brady from within eliminates half of Daboll’s remaining options. Only the Raiders seemingly stand between Tennessee and its preferred hire.
ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported last week that Smith had conversations with both the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee before ultimately choosing Ohio State. That option is now off the table for the Titans, leaving Daboll as the obvious choice.
The Titans completed interviews with three OC candidates on Monday, including Kliff Kingsbury, but Daboll appears to still be the team’s top target.
