The Tennessee Titans continue to remain in the news with their latest free agent signing. On a day where the team got into a scuffle with the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee is looking to bulk up their defense.
Cam Ward’s offense is the main focal point heading into the 2025 season. With no guarantees that the No. 1 overall pick is going to pan out, a key defensive signing has been made which brings the team additional depth at a premium position.
Brian Asamoah is the Newest Titans Player After a Three-Year Stint in Minnesota
Brian Asamoah didn’t get to fulfill his four-year rookie contract as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. The NFC North team selected Asamoah at No. 66 overall back in 2022. After a three-year career with Oklahoma, the Ohio native showed great promise after recording 80 tackles in 2021.
Minnesota moved on from Asamoah for numerous reasons. Most importantly, the production wasn’t there. Entering the final year in his rookie deal, Asamoah had recorded just 30 total tackles in his first three seasons. The linebacker started 16 games in 2022, 13 in ’23, and played in every game last season.
Despite playing all 17 games, Asamoah recorded a career low six solo tackles. He finished the season with one more tackle than he did compared to 2023 where he played in four fewer games. The rookie recorded more total tackles in his first season than he did in his last two combined.
August 12 marked the day that Asamoah was released by the Vikings. It took roughly 24 hours for him to find a new home. Craig Peters reported the news as he spoke about the linebacker’s 23 defensive snaps in Minnesota’s preseason opener.
With production being a key part of his release, his actions on the field didn’t help his case. Just yesterday, Will Fries had a punch thrown at him courtesy of Asamoah. Knowing his release came on the same day, it’s clear the Vikings were less than pleased with the situation.
Titans Waive Otis Reese in Corresponding Move
Jim Wyatt broke the news that Otis Reese was on the receiving end of the Asamoah signing. Reese nearly doubled the amount of games he played in last year, jumping from seven to 13. Entering his third-year in the league, the Ole Miss graduate will search for a new home.
Wyatt highlighted Asamoah’s ability on special teams. The 25-year-old played six special teams snaps in the Vikings 20-10 preseason win over the Houston Texans. Last year, he recorded four special teams tackles as well as a forced fumble.
James Williams Sr. is the only name ahead of the Titans newest linebacker signing. ESPN slotted Asamoah above Curtis Jacobs, who is the team’s RILB3. The team has Cody Barton, Cedric Gray, Amari Burney, and Blake Lynch listed as LILB’s.
After being released on the same day he threw a punch, it’s ironic the Titans signed him the same day they had a fight at joint practice. It’s a fight the team may not have been proud of, but it’s a wake-up call, if anything. Moving forward, they’ll hope their newest signing greatly benefits from a change of scenery.
