The last thing the Washington Commanders wanted to see during training camp was injuries start to pile up like last season. But that’s the case with the Commanders entering their Week 2 preseason matchup Saturday.
One of the biggest injuries the team has suffered is at left tackle with Laremy Tunsil. The veteran tackle suffered a torn triceps this month and will need surgery. Tunsil could miss all if not the entire 2026 NFL regular season.
The Commanders appear willing to trust their tackle depth to replace Tunsil. On Friday, though, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox named veteran offensive tackle Cam Robinson an ideal replacement.
“The Commanders may believe that Brandon Coleman can replace Tunsil, but adding Robinson couldn’t hurt,” wrote Knox.
Over his nine-year career, Robinson has earned $81.17 million according to Spotrac.
What Cam Robinson Could Bring to Commanders
It’s obviously getting late in the preseason for a team to add a starting offensive tackle. But any team who has lost a starter at left or right tackle could be in the market for Robinson.
The former second-round pick has started 114 games in nine NFL seasons. Last year, he started 12 contests for the Cleveland Browns.
The Jacksonville Jaguars picked Robinson at No. 34 overall in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He became practically an immediate starter at left tackle and started 91 contests for Jacksonville in eight seasons.
At the 2024 NFL trade deadline, the Jaguars traded Robinson to the Minnesota Vikings. He started 10 contests for the Vikings to end the 2024 campaign.
Robinson signed with the Houston Texans during free agency last year. But in late September 2025, the Texans dealt the tackle to the Browns.
The past two years prove Robinson can be a decent short-term solution and late addition for a team. That experience could bode well for him joining a club late in the preseason or during September.
Washington’s Offensive Line Injuries
The Commanders could be in the market for Robinson or another left tackle because of the season-ending ailment to Tunsil. Washington is also dealing with an injury at center with Nick Allegretti.
The veteran hasn’t practiced much this month and was out for Week 2 of the preseason because of a calf strain.
Robinson isn’t an option to replace Allegretti if the center has to miss the beginning of the regular season. But with potentially two holes along the offensive line, there should be more urgency for the Commanders to find the best solution at left tackle possible.
The last thing Washington should want to do is go into the regular season with a less than capable offensive line. Quarterback Jayden Daniels is back healthy, but the Commanders saw last year how quickly things can turn south when a starting signal-caller gets injured.
Robinson isn’t an elite tackle. But he has the potential to provide a decent short-term solution.
