Johnson could be in store for an expanded role in Sunday's game against the Rams after accounting for 62 yards from scrimmage on 12 touches in the Bears' Week 3 loss to the Colts, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. While head coach Matt Eberflus hasn't said outright that Johnson has earned more opportunities, the second-year back made a compelling case to pick up extra snaps and touches on the heels of his Week 3 performance. He was a rare bright spot in a Chicago rushing attack that has struggled mightily on the whole through the first three games. Starter D'Andre Swift has been limited to just 1.8 yards per carry on 37 totes, while Khalil Herbert (eight carries for 16 yards) hasn't fared much better in a more limited sample. Johnson, meanwhile, was a healthy inactive Week 1 and was limited to a special-teams role Week 2 before he capitalized on his first offensive snaps of the season in Indianapolis. Heading into the Week 4 game, the Bears probably won't offer much clarity on how the backfield snaps will be distributed, but Johnson at least makes for an appealing speculative add in leagues where he's available on the waiver wire.

Byard (back) did not participate in Thursday's practice session. Byard was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, but he appears to have picked up a back injury. Friday's final report will provide further context regarding his availability for Sunday's game against the Rams. If Byard isn't able to suit up, Jonathan Owens figures to be the next man up as the starting free safety alongside strong safety Jaquan Brisker.
Allen (heel) practiced on a limited basis Thursday. Allen played through a heel issue Week 1 against the Titans en route to four catches (on 11 targets) for 29 yards. He then was held out of all drills during prep for Weeks 2 and 3 before returning to practice Wednesday. With consecutive capped sessions in his back pocket this week, Allen seems to be putting himself in a position to suit up again Sunday versus the Rams, but Friday's injury report will reveal whether or not he enters the weekend with a designation. Meanwhile, rookie WR Rome Odunze (hip) showed up on Thursday's report as a limited participant, adding another question mark to the Bears' receiving corps.
Odunze practiced in a limited capacity Thursday due to a hip injury. Odunze is a midweek addition to the Bears' Week 4 practice report, but the current issue differs from the MCL sprain that he suffered in the season opener and impacted his practice reps during Weeks 2 and 3. He was able to tough out the injury the last two games while Keenan Allen (heel) was sidelined, combining for eight catches (on 16 targets) for 145 yards and one touchdown during that span. Allen has cobbled together back-to-back capped sessions this week, so their respective listings on Friday's report will be something to monitor in advance of Sunday's contest against the Rams.
Allen (heel) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. Allen's official listing on Wednesday's practice report is confirmation of what head coach Matt Eberflus said earlier in the day, when he noted that the veteran wideout would resume practicing as a partial participant. Eberflus also said he's "hopeful" Allen will be able to both return to the field for Sunday's game against the Rams, after having missed the Bears' previous two contests. Allen will have two more opportunities to upgrade to full participation in practice prior to Sunday's contest.
Wright (back) will not practice Wednesday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports. Wright is considered day-to-day, according to head coach Matt Eberflus. He'll have the opportunity to return to the practice field Thursday, which he may need to do if he's going to play Sunday against the Rams.

Allen's heel injury has prevented him from practicing or playing the last two weeks, but it sounds like he'll be back on the field and listed as 'limited' Wednesday. Eberflus said he's "hopeful" Allen will be able to suit up for Sunday's game against the Rams, per Scott Bair of Marquee Sports Network, as well as remain available for the long term. Allen's heel issue may be something he has to manage over the course of the season, after the veteran wideout missed time due to it mid-August and also dealt with a heel injury down the stretch of the 2023 season with the Chargers. Elsewhere in the Bears' receiving corps, rookie first-rounder Rome Odunze broke out with six catches for 112 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets in Chicago's 21-16 loss to the Colts in Week 3.
Carlson signed with the Bears' 53-man roster from their practice squad Tuesday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports. Carlson will take the spot of Travis Homer (finger) on Chicago's active roster. The 27-year-old appeared in one game for the Bears last season, playing a single special teams snap, which was his NFL game action since 2020 with the Browns.
