Coach Ben Johnson said the Bears will place Sewell (Achilles) on injured reserve Wednesday, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports. Sewell suffered a torn Achilles in Sunday night's loss to the 49ers and will miss Week 18 and the playoffs for Chicago. Sewell served as the Bears' top reserve linebacker and a top special-teamer. He appeared in 13 games, making nine starts, and recorded a career-high 59 tackles (33 solo) and one forced fumble.
Sewell is believed to have suffered a torn Achilles during Sunday's 42-38 loss to the 49ers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The third-year pro from Oregon was carted off the field with what appeared to be a serious injury in the third quarter of Sunday's loss. Across 13 appearances in 2025, Sewell recorded 59 total tackles and one forced fumble while contributing on defense (391 snaps) and special teams (147 snaps). Expect Amen Ogbongbemiga to have an expanded role as the Bears' top reserve linebacker while Sewell is likely sidelined for the remainder of the season.
Sewell has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday night's game versus San Francisco with an ankle injury. Sewell looked like he suffered a serious injury in the third quarter and had to be carted off the field. Prior to leaving the game, Sewell recorded just one tackle. D'Marco Jackson, Daniel Hardy and Amen Ogbongbemiga are the remaining reserve linebackers for Chicago.
