Malia Jen Brooks, a teacher in Simi Valley, California, was arrested and charged with sex assault against one of her students.
According to several reports, Brooks suffers from mental disorders that may have contributed to her committing of the alleged crime, according to WebProNews.

1. Malia Allegedly Had Sex With a Sixth-Grader
Brooks, a sixth-grade teacher, allegedly had sex with one of her students. Reports say the incident has been investigated since February, but she wasn’t arrested until recently.
2. Brooks Pleaded Not Guilty Yesterday
Brooks appeared in court yesterday and pleaded not guilty to the five charges brought against her, which include: one count of a lewd act upon a child; one count of oral copulation of a person under 14; and three counts of genital penetration by a foreign object, with a person under 14, according to Christian Post.
3. Brooks Taught at Garden Grove Elementary School
As per Epoch Times, school Superintendent Kathy Scroggin said the school was taking proper precautions to make sure that the students and staff at the school were safe.
4. Her Bail is $2 Million
After allegations of her affair with the student she was put on paid leave until eventually she resigned from her position on June 5. After being arrested Brooks was put on $2 million bail because she poses as a flight risk, according to NBC. She is being represented by lawyer Ron Bamieh.
5. Parents and Teachers Loved Her
Most students and staff at the school said she was a very good teacher and never expected this from her, but they still blamed the mental illness for her behaviors.
