Mexico’s Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa has made a number of eye-catching saves to put Mexico ahead in the 2014 World Cup with 2 shutouts in the first two games. Watch the video above to see some of his impressive saves.
Here’s what you need to know about Mexico’s talented goal keeper:
1. He Shut Out Cameroon in the Opener
Ochoa had a signature save in the 91st minute of the game to prevent Benjamin Moukandjo from scoring shown in the video above.
2. He Made Huge Saves Against Brazil
Brazil’s Neymar had an amazing header in the game against Mexico. However, Ochoa stopped the goal with a clutch save. The Mexican goalkeeper made yet again a ridiculous save when Thiago Silva had a beautiful shot that was pushed aside by Ochoa. Watch the video above to see him shut out Neymar and Silva.

3. He Became a Free Agent After AC Ajaccio Was Relegated
Ochoa is determined to continue playing in Europe to challenge himself against the best players in the world that compete in the Champions League.
Ochoa became a free agent in January after playing his 100th match in Europe and shortly after Ajaccio was relegated. Ochoa played on the team for 3 years before quitting.
Ligue 2 Club said:
After three years loyal service to AC Ajaccio, Memo Ochoa is leaving the club to discover new horizons.”
He has achieved more than 400 saves in three seasons of Ligue 1. He was the most consistent player with 112 matches to his name in the league.”
Ochoa plans to continue playing for a team in France, if not Europe.
4. He Was Briefly Suspended For Testing Positive for Drugs
Ochoa, along with 5 other players tested positive for drugs and were suspended during the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Ochoa tested positive for clenbuterol which is a fat-burner, but fought the accusation, saying that it was from contaminated meat that he had eaten which led to the league lifting his suspension.
Guillermo Ochoa spoke of his appreciation for AC Ajaccio for believing him in the situation:
[They were] the only club who offered me a chance after the doping affair of which I was accused”.
