A terrorist plot on two major cities in Russia was halted by the Federal Security Service. 10 men from Central Asia with ties to the Islamic State were apprehended with four deadly IEDs in their arsenal. The men were captured in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, in cooperation with local law enforcement and the FSB.
An operation conducted on November 12 in Moscow and St. Petersburg resulted in the arrests of 10 terrorists. They had a total of four powerful IEDs in their arsenals, which were seized. The suspects confessed to having contacts with leaders of the terrorist group Islamic State based in the Middle East. They also identified targets of their attack, accomplices and a support base both in Russia and in other countries.
A video of the apprehended men was shared by Russian news company KN KPRU and can be watched above. They further write that the migrants had four homemade bombs, stuffed with shrapnel, and automatic weapons, ammunition, and communications equipment.
The failed terrorist attack came out around the same time that ISIS released a new edition of their online magazine Rumiyah.
One article in the magazine explained to lone wolf attackers in the United States how they might be able to perpetrate a suicide car bomb attack on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 24.
