Islamic State terrorist channels have begun to circulate a meme urging Muslims everywhere to ignore New Year’s Eve 2016 because celebrating it is “practicing idolatry.” The meme was circulated on English-speaking terrorism channels hours before much of the Western world is set to usher in 2017.

An accompanying statement with the meme reads:

To celebrate New Year’s Eve with the kuffar is to embrace their idolatry and paganism and to shun the rulings of our Lord.

Allah says: “O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliya’ (friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Auliya’ of each other. And if any amongst you takes them (as Auliya’), then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers and unjust)” (Al-Maidah 51).

There is nothing to celebrate. The Gregorian calendar is rooted in kufr and blatantly ignores the lunar calendar and that introduced to follow the Hijrah of our honorable Prophet (SAWS).

We also do not celebrate the start of a new year. Rather, we consider sacred the month of sacrifice and the ‘Eids, which are also times to consider our Muslim brothers and ourselves. If a Muslim finds himself amid such a celebration, the kuffar commit all kinds of sin – imbibing of alcohol, fornication, and debauchery – that must be avoided.

The warning cites Quranic verses to dissuade Muslims from celebrating, with heavy focus on the origins of the Gregorian calendar the pagan god that “January” is named after.

Earlier this month, ISIS threatened New Year’s celebrations around the world. However, with nearly half the world having already rung in 2017, there has yet to be a New Year’s attack committed by the Islamic State.

  1. With all do respect they have a point, I mean millions of people are dying out of hunger and we’re wasting all this money on what? A nonsensical celebration just to make ourselves feel good? Our moral compass is kind of twisted don’t you think.

    • Millions of People are dying out of hunger & MORONS like u r wasting money over the internet……SHAME on U, go & give this money to those who actually need it for the food

    • Seems to me celebrating the date of Jesus’s circumcision which happened on Jan 1 is pretty backwards. Grow up guys, celebrating Jan 1 is a pagan ritual.

    • Seems to me celebrating the date Jesus got his penis circumcised (Jan 1) is pretty backward. Grow up guys, celebrating Jan 1 is an old pagan ritual and we want to consider ourselves a modern society, that’s almost an oxymoron (and funny if you think about it for a second).

    • Actually celebrating Jan 1 is older than Islam. If anything, what Islam is suggesting is more modern and forward thinking.

  2. I’ll be damn… I think like isis and I don’t even consider myself muslim… in fact I don’t like any religion, maybe christianity because it’s nice to think God’s son died for you and all the sh!t you do in a whole lifetime… But I don’t celebrate new years, only the birth of Jesus Christ! complicated world we live in…

  3. If I were a Muslim, why should I accept the opinions of any Islamic leaders? If I choose to celebrate, for any reason, who has any justification to judge me, or my motives, or any other aspect of my life? Why can’t Muslims respect the civil rights of others? I don’t tell Muslims how to live, and I refuse to submit to them telling me how to live.
