Patrick Bailey: Breaking News

Giants manager Tony Vitello indicated Thursday that Bailey could split catching duties with Daniel Susac moving forward, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bailey remains an elite defensive catcher, but he's a black hole offensively and has gotten off to a particularly rough start in 2026, slashing just .136/.191/.136. Meanwhile, Susac is 9-for-16 at the dish to open his career. Ultimately, there's a good chance neither of the Giants' top two catchers will do enough offensively to warrant being rostered outside of deep fantasy leagues.

Bailey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. After starting behind the dish in 13 of the Giants' first 15 games, Bailey will now take a seat for the second time in three contests. Rookie Daniel Susac will draw the start at catcher Wednesday, but Bailey will presumably check back into the lineup for Thursday's series finale.

Bailey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Daniel Susac will get the call behind the plate for the series finale while Bailey rests for the day game after a night game. Bailey has shouldered one of the heavier workloads among all catchers so far this season, making starts in 13 of the Giants' first 16 games.
