Some may call it lucky, but Christina Torre calls it fate. As she left the Little Cup Cake Shop with her coffee at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, she noticed a baby dangling from an awning .
Christina Torre, 44, daughter of Joe Torre, who was the manager of the New York Yankees, aligned herself with the 1-year-old as he tumbled right into her arms.

Christina Torre is a teacher in a Brooklyn’s Montessori preschool. Torre said that she hoped the baby’s parents learn from this. “There have to be safety measures put in place to protect the children because [it’s] so quick that all this can happen,” she told the Daily News. Torre thinks that Dillion Miller might have slipped on a piece of cardboard that was on the fire escape.

The parents of the 1-year-old child, Tiffany Demitrio, 24, and Sam Miller, 23, were both arrested and are being charged with reckless endangerment and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, according to Washington Post.
Three other children were taken out of the home as well, ages 2,3 and 5. Police even stopped the 3-year-old from crawling out the window as they entered the home.

Investigators said there were no beds in the apartment and no food in the kitchen — as well as peeling paint. They cited the apartment as a health hazard. Overall, it was a bad day to be the Millers.
