Saturday, December 14, 2013, marks the one-year anniversary of one of the most devastating incidents this country has ever seen. One year ago, America watched and listened in horror as it learned that in the sleepy suburban town of Newtown, Connecticut, a disturbed 20-year-old killed his mother before entering Sandy Hook Elementary School with an assault rifle and a pistol, killing 20 children and six adults.
America has rarely been exposed to such loss, but it has also rarely seen such hope and resilience. To commemorate the one year anniversary, here are pictures of the day's events, as well as the marches and memorials that occurred in the year after.
