A 12-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the death of a 54-year-old homeless man in Jackson, Fla. Cops charged Sharron Townsend with murder in the death of Thomas Trent, who was killed the morning of June 28. Cops say Trent and Townsend didn’t know each other, according to WJXT.

1. Cops Say Townsend Shot Trent in the Head
According to WJXT, cops said Townsend shot Trent once in the head. During the course of the investigation, cops interviewed 16-year-old Darrell Royal, who lead investigators to Townsend. Royal had been incarcerated on an unrelated burglary charge and is not implicated in Trent’s death, WJXT reports. Townsend was caught on video surveillance footage, featured above, according to WJXT.
2. Cops Called the Shooting a ‘Horrible, Spontaneous Event’
I cannot tell you a reason. To me, the best way to describe it is a horrible, spontaneous event. I can’t give you an explanation as to why it happened.
3. Cops Haven’t Recovered the gun Used to Kill Trent
WJXT reports cops say Townsend admitted to shooting Trent with a .22-caliber gun. The gun has not yet been recovered by police.
4. Townsend Has a Prior Arrest
According to The Florida Times-Union, Townsend has a prior burglary arrest.
5. Trent Was Found in a Parking Lot
According to The Florida Times-Union, Trent’s body was found in a parking lot on Jacksonville’s 103rd Street.
