Fresno Shooting Victims: Photos to Remember Their Lives

A Shooting Rampage

A Fresno man, Kori Muhammad, is accused of going on a race-fueled rampage in downtown Fresno on April 19. Police say he randomly shot four people - all white men - killing three of them. They also say he shouted "Allahu Akbar" - which means "God is great" in Arabic - when apprehended. Muhammad is also accused of killing Motel 6 security guard Carl Williams a few days before the downtown attack. The April 18 victims were identified as Zackary Randalls, a PG&E utility worker who was shot as he sat in the passenger side of a utility truck, and Mark Gassett, who was going to Catholic charities to get food. The third deceased victim was not yet identified. Despite the utterance, police say that they do not believe Muhammad was motivated by terrorism. Rather, police say they believe that Muhammad targeted the man because they were white. Muhammad, who is black, posted about black nationalism on Facebook. He had also expressed hatred for white people, calling them "white devils," and he expressed admiration for the Dallas police shooter, who was a black nationalist. Randalls and Gassett were both fathers who were remembered as good people who will be missed. A fundraising site was established for Randalls' wife and his two small children. You can access it here. The GoFundMe site says in part, "Zack, 34, was the father of both a 3 year old girl and 4 year old boy, a loving husband of 8 years to his adored wife Katie, and a close and beloved friend to many. His precious life was cut short on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 when he was the victim of a random act of violence and sustained gunshot wounds from a heartless and vicious rampage shooter. Zack was on his first ride-along in his new position with PG&E when the tragedy occurred, a job he had just recently started and was excited about. It was his first day outside the classroom, and tragically, his last among his loving friends and family. Zack was a kind, funny, loving man who's charitable ways and good nature made him close to so very many that had the honor to know him." Zackary Randalls and Mark Gassett, two of the Fresno victims, are pictured above. The third victim has now been identified as David Jackson, 58, a military victim. His photo has been added to this gallery. (Facebook)
