It’s plausible to say that the Atlanta Braves are the most complete team in MLB this season. They hold the best record in baseball and have a commanding division lead in the National League East. The Braves will open up a four-game set with the Miami Marlins on Monday night.

As the summer months approach, it’s important to start thinking about possible trade destinations for MLB’s biggest trade candidates, and recently, per ESPN Insider Buster Olney, Atlanta is a destination to keep an eye out for as a landing spot for Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton.

MLB Insider Buster Olney Floats Byron Buxton as Trade Candidate for Braves

IF (capital IF) there’s anything the Atlanta Braves need right now, it’s an outfielder. Ronald Acuña Jr. has been sidelined for the better part of May, and Mike Yastrzemski, although he’s starting to heat up, has been shaky in his time in left field.

Buster Olney believes that the Braves are a team that will surface in trade talks with Byron Buxton, who is signed to a seven-year, $100 million contract:

“I think that at some point the name of Byron Buxton is gonna come up for the Atlanta Braves… he is a perfect fit for what they have… you throw Buxton into that mix that they have right now — wow.”

Buxton also happens to be tearing the cover off the baseball this season, and could be headed to his third MLB All-Star appearance. In 40 games, Buxton has 15 home runs and an OPS+ of 146. The biggest development of Buxton this season is that he’s putting together another injury-free season (knock on wood).

What Would the Atlanta Braves Have to Give up to Acquire Byron Buxton?

Bryon Buxton has been linked to the Atlanta Braves before. He has a no-trade clause in his contract, and some reports indicated that he’d allow a trade to the Braves.

Buxton is from southern Georgia, a couple of hours away from Atlanta.

As for what the Braves may have to give up to acquire Buxton? With the Twins in rebuild mode (although they’re playing solid baseball this season), Minnesota is likely looking for prospect capital, so the Braves could offer Owen Murphy in a potential deal, and also throw in Grant Holmes or Hurston Waldrep to complete a deal.

Again, it’s not like the Braves need all that much assistance with their currently constructed roster, but Buxton would certainly add another level of depth to an already stacked lineup.

Either way, the Braves are likely a team that will be active this MLB trade deadline in terms of rumors and speculation.
