The Atlanta Braves are a very interesting team to think about in the Tarik Skubal trade sage, because the internal details matter, and those point to the Braves having a realistic shot at landing Skubal, which could give Atlanta the best 1-2 starting combo in MLB, and might propel the Braves to being the favorites to win the World Series.
The Braves currently lead the National League in wins and have cemented themselves as true contenders, but everyone knows they must keep pace with the Dodgers, who have emerged as the favorite to land Tarik Skubal (shocker). However, a recent article for Bleacher Report outlined what a potential Detroit Tigers-Braves trade idea could look like. Note*: The Detroit Tigers are now 21-34, and sit in dead last in the AL Central.

Tigers-Braves Trade Proposal Details for Tarik Skubal

In Rymer’s recent predictions, the MLB writer believes the Braves could land Tarik Skubal, but it would come at the cost of their top two MLB prospects, Cam Caminiti and JR Ritchie. Any prospect you think is *untouchable* becomes very movable when a big shark like Tarik Skubal surfaces in trade discussions.
“Trade Proposal: Atlanta Braves get LHP Tarik Skubal; Detroit Tigers get LHP Cam Caminiti (Braves No. 1), RHP JR Ritchie (Braves No. 2)”
Let me briefly touch on the Detroit Tigers side of this trade proposal and say this would be a very solid trade haul. Atlanta doesn’t have the best farm system depth, but JR Ritchie and Caminiti have early showings of being the truth.
However, Rymer doesn’t believe in the Braves‘ top prospects, so they could be expendable in this scenario:
“Pretty uncomplicated, right? Caminiti and Ritchie are the two best prospects Atlanta has, and each just misses out on being top-50 material. Caminiti ranks at No. 51, with Ritchie at No. 55. Neither is a sure thing. Ritchie has had control issues in the minors and majors this year. Caminiti is only 19, and saddled with a 5.19 ERA at the High-A level. Put these things together, and you get smooth edges the Tigers would have to shave down.”

Why the Braves Could be a Real Landing Spot for Tarik Skubal?

Look, there have been no real reports that suggest the Braves will go after Tarik Skubal, but they have a better chance than you think based on a few different factors.
For one, the Braves would willingly add Skubal with the sole purpose of him being a rental addition, as the chances are slim that they’d be able to retain him in MLB free agency. Second, the Braves could have the free’d up cash (from Jurickson Profar’s suspension) to afford the rest of what Skubal is owed this season.
Third, and the universal reason for any team trading for Skubal is the Detroit Tigers’ struggles. Tarik Skubal has begun doing on-field work and facing live batters. He holds a 2.70 ERA over 43.1 innings and seven starts this season. He remains the most feared pitcher in MLB, and he has the accolades and stats to back it up.
Regardless if the Braves go after Skubal or not, they better hope he doesn’t land with a National League contender, like the league Killer Whale, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
